I believe a lot of people take this scripture out of context. It is truly debatable. God does use so many women to teach, preach and prophesy. Now, my take on this is that as long as the women don 't over rule the men and put them down in the church and are willing to listen to the man of God, I find no fault in women being used in the church or out of the church.

In 2nd Timothy 1 5 Paul gives credit to Timothy 's grandmother Lois and mother Eunice who were both leaders in their home churches since there were no church buildings at the time for his enduring faith. He also salutes several other women leaders as deaconess. At the time he wrote this the sex goddess Diana was the main idol to worship and women were bringing this into the churches at Ephesus where he was living at the time. Read the letter to Ephesus in Revelation chapter 2. In Act 2 11 it says he will pour out his spirit on his handmaidens and they shall prophesy.

Christians, if you 're against gay marriage, why aren 't you also against women preaching?..Stop cherry picking.. it clearly says a woman is not to teach or preach in church.. "Let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man rather, she is to remain quiet "! Last I looked quiet means quiet..and No teaching means No teaching!

St Paul was the first messenger to the Gentiles so what he had planted should also be reaped in this end time because he had not sown confussion. We are at the end of gentile dispensation and we should harvest what he planted. If we go back to old testament where did GOD ever dealt with women priests or messengers?Yes she can have a gift of prophecy to edify the church but she cant be a messenger or lead an assembly because GOD is not author of confusion. So people don 't try to reason with the word of GOD and St Paul is clearly giving an example that Adam was formed first and was not deceived.Who are you to empower women when GOD said she shall be subject unto her husband?

I think this verse explains everything that went wrong thanks to the feminist movement.

I too have struggled with the meaning here, ive always thought it meant women were not to hold positions of authority over men in a church bc they were the weaker vessels concerning temptations to sin, eg back in eden , but ive learned alot from women teachers, and id be affraid to speak ill of God 's annointed ones. If God can loose a donkeys tongue to speak, why is it hard to think a woman couldnt be used to speak, as long as we all agree that Jesus is the way, and Him crucified, raised again, then we should all just agree to disagree where difficult to understand doctrines are concerned. United we stand, devided we fall, a house devided against itself cannot stand, but if we stand together, our house will not be devided, may God bless all of u, my brothers and sisters in Christ, and may peace be with u all in Jesus name
  • Franklin on 1 Timothy 2 - 9 years ago
I believe this scripture is referring to women teaching preaching in worship and running the business of the Church. Any person including women that knows how to rightly divide the word of God can teach you something about the bible.
  • Jackie on 1 Timothy 2:12 - 9 years ago
It 's interesting reading so many strong feelings on this subject. Some are ready to send others to the Lake of Fire for their opinion it seems. My question I think is simple. Has God put His presence on any of these women who are preaching, praying, and developing ministries that save live and souls. If He is then the verses meaning may need some reconsideration. If God is doing nothing through these women then its common literal translation should stand.

this is a command not a bone so don 't spit it out to obey is better than sacrifice I would rather do what it says and be wrong than do what I thought and be wrong galations 5 1 stand fast therefore in the liberty where with Christ has made us free and be not entangeled again with the yoke of bondage
  • Patricia Chinyoka on 1 Timothy 2 - 9 years ago
I think that God has a role for all of us to play, men and women, maybe different roles. But I can 't comment any further as this is just my opinion. As we can see in the bible, women did have roles to play and as such can have similar roles within today 's church. If in doubt, pray and ask and God does answer prayer.

when the bible speaks on who can preach back in those days women were to ask their husbands at home what they wanted to know to keep down confusion in the church but women are ministers and preachers as well. a lot of times we misinterpret the bible for our own benefit sometimes and sometimes just not knowing but we all get revelation from god but we have to make sure that it I from god. this is just my opinion
  • Marc singleton on 1 Timothy 2 - 9 years ago
Why can 't we as dedicated Christians just follow the word of GOD it 's plane and simple.Without adding our own opinions because their is always going to be a way that seems right to a man opinion , but GOD says that it could to his own destruction. I am interested in checking Micheal Griffith 's comment on this subject, but GOD,s word will never change.
  • Paul on 1 Timothy 2 - 9 years ago
I hate to tell you all but yes the bible not just Paul teaches that women are to be under men. If you cant understand the basics of the bible please do not give your opinion. Cause opinions are leading men to hell.
  • John Sturza on 1 Timothy 2:12 - 9 years ago
The word of GOD from genesis to revelation is the God breathed word. If you choose to not believe it that is your choice. God will deal with you. And if you teach and lead others astray He will also deal with you. The church today chooses to interpret scripture the way they choose not the way God chooses. We are so far away from God and how church or fellowship is meant to be. Read acts 2 42.The scripture says what it means and means what it says.

Woman came from man, it was eve that was deceived. Not Adam. Also in the next chapter God give the qualifications on who can preach.

Romans 16 3 Prisca is greeted first before her husband because her prominence as a house church leader. Romans 16 1 Phoebe is greeted as a deacon diakonos Romans 16 7 Andronius and Junia are greeted as apostles before him. 1 Corinthians 16 19 Again Aquila and Prisca are greeted as house church leaders. Also greeted again as such in Acts 18. When you look at the whole body of work there is diversity on this subject.

thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven....if god wills all men to be saved then all men will be saved because eventually his will gets done on earth....the confusion in mainstream Christianity is that they don 't make the distinction between those who will be saved and those who will inherit the kingdom to live and reign with Christ on earth for 1000 years during which time all will come to the truth. Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is lord...If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is lord.....you will be saved....

Timothy tells us to pray for our leaders. "For kings, and for all that are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. " This includes our President of these United States. Do not wish him ill or his family. I don 't agree with much of anything he does, however, I do pray for him to lead us down the right path and also pray for his salvation. God does not want us to hate him or anyone.

The words of Paul are not the words of Yahweh Other than this passage in the Bible which many people consider to be scripture but actually reflect the writer s personal desires in several places I have no recollection of the Almighty declaring anything along the lines of any woman not being able to lead a man in anything Paul s epistles do not rise to the same level of the Scriptures that he himself were taught from his youth Recall how he did not write the same thing to each church and addressed different matters in relation to their respective situations It took me a long time to figure this out and I am grateful that the blinders have come off

If women should take man responsibility is not in the scriptures this has developed by man stepping down from their given authority by GOD because of convenience in money and possessions

I have taught young couples in S S and also have used women bible teachers when men attended I believe with my whole heart that women are not supposed to be pastors nor leaders in the church but in my study of the scripture I do believe this is talking about a wife and husband relationship woman and wife are synonymous in the bible Who was the first evangelist A woman all the men ran and left when Jesus arose from the dead including Peter and John When God created man He told him all he could do but not eat of the tree of good and evil it was some time before Eve was created so who do you suppose told Eve she was not to eat of that tree It had to be Adam read the whole 2nd chapter of Genesis I believe what God says in His Word TRUTH

I understand and accept what the word says and I'm not trying to misinterpret but what can be said about women singing in the church or music leaders? Is that considered as usurping mans authority ?
  • Nelson bonilla on 1 Timothy 2 - 10 years ago

  • Simon on 1 Timothy 2:12 - 10 years ago
lets not take scripture out of its proper context. people have many interpretation of scriptures but the bible only have one true interpretation. Paul said I (personal) suffer not a woman to teach. a woman has all right to teach if a man (leader) suffer them to. in that way the man is in authority and not the woman.
