Wesley's Notes for 1 Timothy 4:10

4:10 Therefore - Animated by this promise. We both labour and suffer reproach - We regard neither pleasure, ease, nor honour. Because we trust - For this very thing the world will hate us. In the living God - Who will give us the life he has promised. Who is the Saviour of all men - Preserving them in this life, and willing to save them eternally. But especially - In a more eminent manner. Of them that believe - And so are saved everlastingly.

"For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving" While at work, or going shopping, or anything that we have to do around "other people;" it greatly increases our joy in the Lord, as well as our grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ; when we consider that "they" are made in the image of God, and the pinnacle of His creations. "Speaking lies in hypocrisy having their conscience seared with a hot iron;" What makes us poor in spirit, meek, mournful, hungering and thirsting after righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers, persecuted for righteousness' sake? Having a tender heart and a good conscience in a world that idolizes defiance and fornication and hardness of heart! The words of the wise are heard in quiet!

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils" When the disciples asked Jesus, When shall these things be, and what the sign of thy coming and the end of the world? He first answered, "Take heed that no one mislead you, for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ." Spurious Christians!

Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble
