A prayer for myself, This is spiritual warfare, and character assassination The super his friends the Women/Bullies/Sadist in my building devised a bunch of lies by being deceitful and spreading the vicious lies all through the whole neighborhood to bring me harm and or death to me . I didn't do anything to them . My husband also betrayed me, I pray that God will intervene and step in and soften their heart, change their minds, open their eyes to that they are lying. stop them in their tracks God expose them in Jesus name.

And how did I find my wife 26 years ago? The same! Held hands the first time as we were married, she did though give me a haircut about three days before in her parent's kitchen (under supervision of course). :)

    TJ,

Although we can't know for sure, according to how the circumstances unfold, we can see and acknowledge God's Providential Hand.

How did Abraham's servant find Rebekah so quickly? How did Jacob find Rachel so quickly? How did the Pharaoh find out about Joseph at just the right time? How did Moses get raised in Pharaoh's household? And on and on...

God's Providential Hand. It is all leading to the coming Messiah, redemption for mankind, the Glory of God.

    Hi TJ,

1 Samuel 16:18 (KJV) Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold,

I HAVE SEEN a son of Jesse the Beth-lehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

I believe your answer is in vs 16.

How did the servant know all of this?

I think God was showing saul that Good could still over come evil. The same as if He hadn't disobeyed God he could have been playing beautifully in the eyes of God as well. And Saul loved David at that time as he had once loved God who was good to him.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you:

    1 Samuel 28 &

    1 Samuel 16:23

And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

    1 Samuel 18:10

And it came to pass on the morrow, that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house: and David played with his hand, as at other times: and there was a javelin in Saul's hand.

    1 Samuel 16:14

But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

    1 Samuel 16:15

And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

    1 Samuel 19:9

And the evil spirit from the LORD was upon Saul, as he sat in his house with his javelin in his hand: and David played with his hand.

    1 Samuel 19:20

And Saul sent messengers to take David: and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as appointed over them, the Spirit of God was upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied.

    1 Samuel 11:6

And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his ANGER was kindled greatly.

    1 Samuel 28:7

Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

    Acts 19:15

And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

    >>Most of Sauls problems were of pride. The people wanted a King and God gave them what they wanted; which was for someone else to be a go-between so they didn't have to speak to God.

Rebellion is AS the sin of witchcraft. Saul sought out witches.

The day he "died" he prohibited the customary sacrifice to God for victory in Battle; and told the soldiers He would be their sacrifice! Saul and his 2 sons all died.

I am aware of Saul and seeking a familar spirit (witch). My question was since GOD was upset with Saul due to his unfaithfulness by seeking answers from a witch instead of his divine direction did God send a mean spirit that was within his own emotions and unrest and aniexty to him? The scriptures tell us when David played the Harp for him the spirit went away. I just believe some people will misunderstand the narrative. God did not send an "evil spirit" such as a demonic spirit. Thanks for the response.

    1 Samuel 28:7

Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

Mishael> Saul was consulting with the witch at Endor, instead of consulting with God. God rejected Saul for it; Sent Samuel to tell him that.

It's a good story to read. Reading horoscopes is an abomination also. Search on the word 'witches' and it will fetch all those verses.
  • Mark on 1 Samuel 16 - 3 years ago
Since God sent an "evil spirit" upon Saul does that mean that Saul acquired a mean spirit within himself. In other words he became rude, anxious??

Larry: I think the question was " how many brothers did David have" and not "how many sons did Jesse have". Jesse had eight sons: David and his seven brothers.

7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. (the heart, the heart, the heart,... WOW! WOW! WOW!)

I believe one of the reason David was chosen is because he has passion for the sheep. And was diligent in looking after them. With such a heart, looking after the sheep of God i.e the Israelites would be well done.Unlike the others who dint have a heart for others in vs 7.

Nicely put, Anne! Whatever each of us has to bring to the Lord, He has put into our hearts the wisdom to use for His glory and His service. "And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD'S offering to the work..And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted.." That which is good to the use of edifying!

Prov. 18:16 - says a man's gift makes room for him and brings him before great men. David's gift of music brought him into the presence of the king, the position for which he was anointed to assume. King Saul did not obey God and God allowed him to be troubled by an evil spirit thereby his need for music to soothe his troubled spirit. Let us be prepared and ready to be used of God.

I think Samuel mourning was grieving not really praying,in vs1 Father asked how long will you grieve,I think Samuel is of old age and thought his people would have a king to follow that worshiped our father, and well that didn't turn out, instead of obeying,Saul did what the people wanted NOT father. On the music aspect,u are refering to SECUALR music anything not of religious uplifting and positive.
  • Peter A. Okebukola on 1 Samuel 16 - 6 years ago
David has been a man after God's Heart even from youth. He cherished playing instruments and singing unto the Lord. His numerous Psalms exemplify this. This shows how pleased God is if we sing His praises and adore Him through playing of musical instruments.

Gods Mighty and Majestic power through His son and by the Power of The Holy Spirit is still on the stage of life today. He is Soverign over all. He knows who is in place for the End Times of today and I believe that it will be this generation, my generation I 'm 71 that will experience much of the destruction of the world as we know it. Already the U.S. has spit in Gods face by taking down the cross, the Ten Commandments, and not allowing people to talk about Jesus The Messiah in schools and in open forums, abortions and same sex marriage. There will be a falling away of the "Christian " to believe in the anichrist. This is sad but true to the Bible. I believe hard rock music has set the tone for much of this mayhem. If the beautiful harp music of David could sooth King Sauls state of mind, and ours, then hard cord loud "music " can create a mind open to receive the upheaval world to come.

Verses 13,14, 23 The LORD does send evil spirits to punish those who disobeys HIM. And HE accepts those whom HE will, rejects those whom HE wills.

If you disobbey God then u are obbeying or allowing someone to control you. God can allow the devil to tempt you like the story of Job.the evil spirit is not of God but of devil . in John 7 God says He has plans for us plans to prosper us not to hurm us

This is how i view this scripture and its hidden meaning,it says ' 'Samuel took the 'HORN WITH OIL 'and ANOINTED DAVID WITH IT ',so this means flesh was terminated for anointing to flow...because a horn is from an animal...and an animal is flesh and flesh means worldly desires or sensual perceptions,SO IN SIMPLICITY FOR OIL OR ANOINTING TO FLOW OVER YOUR LIFE YOU NEED TO KILL THE FLESH...STAY BLESSED.
  • Michael on 1 Samuel 16 - 10 years ago
Paul had become so evil, that he would kill a prophet of God. The second king of Isreal was to be choosen. Left to Samuel, he would have choosen (wrongly) based on outward appearance. God Choose David. A man after God's heart. Saul exposed himself to the devil by his rejection of God. lessons for us christians goes thus: The road to Salvation is an individual one. As Samuel could not save Saul. Neither can your pastor nor even the Pope save you. They, as well as us will account for their earthly deeds. God is able to raise up stones to worship Him. Let always seek to be holy as Christ, that the Holy Spirit may continue to dwell in us. For Christ comes quickly; and his reward is with him, to give every man according to his work. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all. Amen.

i am comenting on verse 14: sauls disobedient to Godmade the spirit of God to leave him and an evil spirit enter into him. this is telling us disobedient to God will drive the spirit of God away from us. know that no one can be without. if you dont have the spirit of God be sure the spirit of the devil is in you. see how dangerous it is to disobey God.
  • M on 1 Samuel 16 - 10 years ago
remember, the spirit of GOD was on David 2 cor.3:17 says where the spirit of the LORD is there liberty,so therefore being that David had the spirit of GOD on him it was comforting to Saul so he could relax darkness can not stay around light therefore that
    evil had to go.
