Wesley's Notes for 1 Peter 5:8

5:8 But in the mean time watch. There is a close connexion between this, and the duly casting our care upon him. How deeply had St. Peter himself suffered for want of watching! Be vigilant - As if he had said, Awake, and keep awake. Sleep no more: be this your care. As a roaring lion - Full of rage. Seeking - With all subtilty likewise. Whom he may devour or swallow up - Both soul and body.

People's Bible Notes for 1 Peter 5:8

1Pe 5:8 Be sober. Sobriety is necessary to vigilance. Be vigilant. Wide awake and watchful. The reason follows. An enemy is ready to spring upon them. The devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. He goeth about as the lion, seeking for prey. The lion while hunting only roars when it springs. So the devil is stealthy and does not give warning of his approach.

  • Joymagret for verse 8
I love this portion. But i think we are not watchful these days because if we had been, some of these evil wouldnt be happening cos prayers must have quenched them
  • Abcimoh for verse 8
Jehovah God really loves us that's why He gave us this word to use it 4 our protection. The devil uses any means to attack us, it can be through anybody, or anything as our weak point to. But we must take a stand against him by being firm in the faith, n according to Ephesians 6 13, putting up the complete suit of armor 4rm God n he will flee
  • Jesus saves, not men. for verse 8
Often overlooked fact The saved are not of the world anymore nor will they be devoured. God is the strong man of our house and bound satan to become that.It does not work in reverse folks. God is all powerful and the saved have given their lives to Him. For Him. He will not be divided of Himself EITHER. The men of the world do not see that and speak of how the world will drag you down? So clear. The Saved are IN JESUS, Him in them. The devil is not getting in. He was cast out of them by the only manner possible. The FINGER of God. Kingdom abides ever as does the Spirit. Men say no. Have no doubt Faith....Luke 11:20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. Need more? Please note the only "Word" that did this here...."He". Last enemy was death. Hebrews 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil 15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. Jesus saves. Glory to God.

Points taken and agreed with. We have to be focus, be on guard, be in-tuned with the will of God through His words and be spiritually prepared for any attack of the adversary. God bless us all as we continue to walk in His light.
  • Sometimes if we are not careful, we get drunk on the cares of this life, we get caught up, tied up, tangled, and we neglect to seek The Lord, and watch for his second coming.
  • To be sober means to be in a conscious state of mind that enables you to think clearly. To be vigilant is to be watchful and have an awareness of the your surroundings. The enemy uses anyone and anything to entice of provoke. Pray in the spirit and fortify yourself with the word of God.
