8:49 Their course - Heb. their right, against their invaders andoppressors. For they had forfeited all their rights to God only, but not totheir enemies; whom tho' God used as scourges to chastise his peoples sins,yet they had no pretence of right to their land.

    BSP; I remember during the 80's there was a Bumper Sticker that a lot of church people had on their cars: it read, Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven! Not only me, but all my real Christian brothers and sisters agreed, that that was a terrible witness, and completely misrepresents Jesus and our salvation! Jesus said, BE PERFECT EVEN AS YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN IS PERFECT! So what is your point?

    Verse 46 acknowledges the fact that all are imperfect and nobody is perfect.

    "For thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance.." Solomon's prayer is for God to always have compassion on His people whenever we call upon Him; whenever we might be in trouble because we have sinned, near or far, when we turn our faces and lift up our hands to the LORD, that He would forgive and do for us all that we ask Him. For we have NO ONE ELSE!

    Thank you, PETER! This IS the very thing that causes so many to stumble needlessly, and fall short of God's greatest wishes for them. How much do we hear from misguided and mistaught Christians, well meaning and otherwise good brothers and sisters; that "we can't help but sin, and nobody's perfect;" having swallowed down the maxims of the world, that doesn't know the Lord, instead of the truth!

    The formula for enjoying God's favour as David did is in verse 61: "Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments."
