This is one of the best books in the Bible for believers. I can't tell you how many people I have asked to confess that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh and have failed and made so many reasons not to do it. And every time, it always proves what kind of spirit is functioning in them. I personally think that every Christian should ask whomever their pastor is to confess this. It will keep you at ease and you'll be aware of what you're dealing with.

Glenda, what is the context of your question in 1st John 4:18? The subject that is being taught (starts in verse 4:7) is that God is love in vs 4:18 it simply means that there is no fear in love for our Father and there is no such thing as fear nor room for doubt in and through God AND NEVER MAKE A DECISION BASED ON FEAR. Anyone that is using fear to cause a reaction is of satan, not God. God is in charge but He expects us to use our common sense and spiritual discernment to navigate through these chaotic times.

God is love and if you have accepted Jesus in your heart God the Father, God the son and God the holy spirit will come and dwell in your heart.

and keep you in perfect peace This means that you will be with love in your heart which cannot torment you because God is love. you will be made perfect as a new creation because his spirit dwells in us. And This happens when you repent and believe in him.

    1 john 4:13

13 By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.

Also, it's important to remember that Jesus is the light

John 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome[a] it.

Pray and ask for more understanding God is faithful to shows us amen

God is pure , His love is pure , His love for you is pure , His love for you is real and powerful . If you love Him , truly love Him with all your heart then it follows that you trust Him . If you trust Him and His love for you then you have nothing to fear in this life . If you have that intimate connection with God , that love , trust , faith connection then you don't have to fear anything that this life throws at you . You may still suffer adversities and troubles but your love and trust for God , your faith in His love and righteousness and mercy for you , will keep your worldly fears in check . When you know , for sure in your heart , that He is with you every step , every day , then how can you fear ? Psalm 23 . The only fear we should have is the fear that we will displease Him , Matthew chapter ten , verses 26-31. Psalm 34 . Revelation chapter 21 verse 8 , the fearful are akin to unbelievers . Proverbs chapter 28 verse 1 .Hebrews chapter four , verses 12-16 .

Benson Commentary on 1 John 4:1

Because the Gnostics and other heretics, in the first age, to gain the greater credit to their erroneous doctrines, assumed to themselves the character and authority of inspired teachers, John put his disciples in mind,

( 1 John 2:27) that they had an unction from the Holy Spirit, by which they were enabled to judge with certainty, both of teachers and of their doctrine. He therefore, in this chapter, commands them not to believe rashly every teacher who pretended to be inspired, but to try the inspiration by which any preacher professed to speak, whether it was from God or from evil spirits; that after trial they might know whom it was their duty to attend to, and whom they ought to disregard and reject. And to secure them, as far as possible, from being deceived, he especially desires them to consider whether the teacher, who came to them, pretending to inspiration, held the great and fundamental doctrines of the gospel, which all the teachers, really inspired of God, regularly and uniformly maintained. His words may be paraphrased as follows: Believe not every spirit - By which any teacher is, or professes to be, actuated: or, believe not every teacher who pretends to be inspired by the Spirit of God; but try the spirits - Namely, whether they are of God - By the rule which God hath given. We are to try all spirits by the written word: To the law and to the testimony! If any man speak not according to these, the spirit which actuates him is not of God. Because many false prophets Or false teachers; are gone forth into the world - With an intention to draw disciples after them.

[This is really relevant to these days we're living in. I had to run it by a commentary, but it's all good]

They don't come out and say it , they actually will agree with it , but their doctrine reveals their errors .

They spiritualize Christ in their doctrines to the neglect of His humanity , therefore another Christ that apostle Paul warned us about .

If you post this it's a miracle to me .

Peace to the truth in spirit . Amen

Dear Bon, You are correct that Jesus is the Son of God who took on flesh to be our

Savior through His death and resurrection.

However, He is indeed God who took on flesh. In this incarnation, His divine nature did not change. He took upon Himself the

additional nature of man in order to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins.
  • Marke - In Reply on 1 John 4:1 - 1 year ago
Jesus was made flesh and dwelt among men before offering Himself a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world and returning to heaven as the Creator God of the universe.
  • Suze - In Reply on 1 John 4:1 - 1 year ago
Christ was definately flesh , just like us , he did however receive the Spirit of God without measure , something that had happened in the past to the prophets of old but not without measure . God cannot be tempted , we read that Christ was tempted just as we are , unlike us , Christ resisted to death . Even on the cross he was tempted as the Jews shouted to him ; if you are the son of God come down from the cross , save yourself . This would have been a temptation to anyone who could actually do that if they chose to ,

considering the physical pain he will have been in .

    1john 4.1-6

It a appears that the this problem began back in the Apostles time and is now prevalent today .

The key is that they believe in a spiritual God of their truth , but deny the humanity of Christ in so doing this .

Jesus is the Son of man and Son of God according to all scriptures . We must make it all important to realize that he has flesh and is come in the flesh . And still is .

To make him a special deity is to trump the fact that he comes as a man in the flesh .

God is not a man and does not have flesh . And never will because God never changes . He inhabits eternity. Before the world or heavens existed, and heaven and earth will pass away , but God remains the same as always .

Humans are superficial. We cannot love what we have not sensed, without the aid of the Holy Spirit. This is not to say the love starts with sight, or that you should love people before you love God. But if you love God, then loving fellow Christians will come naturally.

The spirit of error is being ensnared or under the power of evil even though using all the right words and doing what seems to be right in the eyes of the erroneous one .

This happens primarily by false teachings of others taken the same way . And the alarming thing is these are many not a few . These are dark and spiritual dangerous times . The word of God and prayer can not be underestimated. But they will preserve you from errors .

Hi Jeannie Myers ,i am the only Christian in my entire family ,i havent seen most of them for well over a year until today ,i cant say that ive ever been very close to any of them ,we dont have much in common but today there was a family get together and it was very apparent to me that i have drifted far from them ,all they could talk about was money ,how well their jobs and their childrens jobs were goung ,how well they were all doing ,financially not spiritually ,where they had been or were going on holiday , i had nothing to say to any of them , some of these people i love very much but today i wondered why i loved them ,i had been thinking that i was getting to be a bit of a worldly person but in the company of a load of proud arrogant materialistic atheists i felt totally out of place ,we are not of this world ,we are not supposed to be ,my advice is to make God and Jesus your best friends and your family ,work on your relationship with them ,when you come into contact with others always be generous and kind as Jesus was and God wants us to be but dont allow this world and the people of it to stick to you ,you are called out of this world ,you are a Christian ,this world isnt your home and the things of this world dont belong to you and you dont beling to it ,try to do those things that please God ,not people , if the world loves you you are probably not pleasing God .

Sister Jeannie, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

The day that CHRIST IN YOU arrived, a living FIRE was ALSO kindled IN YOU (for our God is a consuming FIRE Hebrews 12:29).

If you have ever watched a trash pile be burned, you know it takes time. Even after the flames died down the coals stay alive under the surface. If other trash is put upon the coals the flame appears and destroys them also. CHRIST IS OUR FIRE; live in peace of this knowledge; you will become PERFECT, like him. He will DESTROY the unwanted trash in you. He knows exactly when and how. We are the POT he is the POTTER; be still and behold THE SALVATION OF GOD. Knowing the END (you will be created in the IMAGE OF GOD) CAUSES us through Christ's GRACE to ENDURE.

When CHRIST IN YOU arrived the ACCUSER was cast out.

Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is SALVATION, and strength, and the kingdom of GOD (CHRIST IN YOU), and the power of his Christ: for the ACCUSER of our brethren is CAST DOWN, which accused them before our God day and night.

Philippians 4:7 And the PEACE OF GOD, which passeth all understanding, shall KEEP your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

TO: Jeannie Myers on 1 John 4

You did not mention if the people you can not tolerate is sinner or saint. Sometimes it is better for Christians to separate themselves, (if possible) from anybody that may provoke them to anger, especially unbelievers; 2 Corinthians 6:14

(Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?)

Every time you start thinking on these negative thoughts, remind yourself of God's Word, First John 4:4 (Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.) The most important thing you can do is ask God to forgive you,/ you forgive them, and constantly pray, may the Lord Jesus help you in your trials.
  • Put on Christ even though we may not want to - In Reply on 1 John 4 - 2 years ago
I had problems like that when I was younger. Now I'm a bit more wiser. Evangelizing complete strangers works that out of you. Because you see with Jesus's eyes and heart.

We are to be the Body of Christ when we are confronted with those feelings. The heart of the Lord is Mercy.

Usually, it is Who is inside of you, that is being repelled by What is in them. It will help if you google: The Armor of God, Teaching. Do not read Wikipedia posts as they are google teachings.

Ephesians 6: If a person, Christian or Unbeliever, has an invisible evil spirit at work, in the vicinity; trying its best to bring enmity into the situation:

That is your enemy. It's invisible but you can see, feel and experience the FRUIT that spirit is revealing it's presence. It may be trying to shoo you away from telling that person anything about Jesus.

You need to put each piece of your Armor on and know what each piece does. Read in the Gospels, what Jesus said and how he responded to spiritual confrontations.

Sometimes it really helps if we make an appointment to run by the Church at lunch and have a prayer with Pastors wife. It's private and confidential. I know she and Pastor will pray for me later. It's cool.

We're all called to be likable; not necessarily 'like' everyone we meet.

The Holy Spirit opened up JOB 1, to me concerning satan and his bad angels. He accuses us right and left. The sneak around observing what we do, what we say under our breath about bad drivers and grumpy people. Satan saw that Job was afraid his kids were not worshiping God right so Job did it for them. Satan sees our fears, our actions, mean mumbling, our wealth and luxury's we like; knows all our friends with "loose mouth", not comforting, speech. Satan destroyed everything Job had, and left Job sitting in the dirt.

It's best to be silent and trust God even more than we do now. I think you have this under control, you just don't like it. No one does.
  • S Spencer - In Reply on 1 John 4 - 2 years ago
    Hi Jeannie.

You're not alone in this struggle, there's areas we continue to grow by praying and continuing in the word,

Our spiritual growth is increased by God, not our own efforts, That's one of the several things I never could do on my own, and compassion would just come from nowhere, It's the fruit of the spirit, we are to abide in Christ, We may be able to control the our actions externally but inwardly is where we need help,

Look what Jesus tells the Pharisees:

Matthew 23:25-28. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

There's a Devine connection between 2 true believers, a brotherhood created by the Lord himself. They have the same Spirit, connected to the same vine and have the same vine dresser,

When there seems to be some disconnect that want mend there is a chance someone is not connected to the vine,

This is a problem in the Christian community,

Different views of doctrine has exposed carnal or false Christians by hate that can be seen, It is something to be concerned with but it may be an area the Lord will have to deal with.

Proverbs 16:7. When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

    God bless.

Hello, developing character and becoming more Christlike is a process, a journey through intentional effort over time. It doesn't magically happen, but takes regular practice.

Christianity is an action to actively follow (pursue) Christ and try to emulate Him and obey His teachings. It takes a lot of effort. Paul struggled himself and likened it to him running a race to win the prize. The prize is not won yet- that happens after this life when we are first judged and by following Christ we have hope for everlasting life with Him in heaven. I personally do not believe anyone is saved until after God judges us.

1 John 1:6 "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:"

1 John 2:4 "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."

Matt 5:22 "But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire."
