Jesus said go and sin no more! If you still sin you have not truly repented from ALL sin! Basically you are saying the devil can make you sin, but God can not keep you from sin! There will be many that day that say Lord,...His response will be depart from me ye that work iniquity (those who sin period)...
  • Berlon on 1 John 3 - 10 years ago
Bro B Even Christians are not without sin the difference is Christians can be forgiven and still go to heaven if they don,t repeat the sin over and over where as one who hasn't repented cant

Sorry Harold, anyone can sin if they CHOOSE to! Your comment is not correct..! No excuses for sin; God keeps those who want to be kept...if u still sin; your heart is not right.!
  • Harold on 1 John 3:9 - 10 years ago
In reading 1John 3:9 we need to define "sin".
Sin is NOT referring to our physical failings.
Instead, it's transgression of the law, 1John 3:4.

But we're NOT under the law, Rom 8:2, Rom 10:4, Gal 5:18. Hence believers CANNOT be charged with this sin.

    Sin is unrighteousness, 1John 5:17.
But a believer's faith is counted for righteousness, Rom 4:5. Hence we CANNOT be charged with this sin.

Sin is unbelief in Jesus, John 16:9.
Believers CANNOT be charged with this sin.

So, as believers, we CANNOT sin.

    @Glen,
Sorry, the Bible doesnt say that Cains wife was from Nod. It rather says that Cain dwelt in the land of Nod ( Genesis 4:16), which doesnt necessarily means that Cains wife came from Nod.
Now coming to Cains wife, Genesis 4 is the only section of the Bible that tells the story of Cain (and Abel), though they are also mentioned in few other sections of the Bible. And one section is not enough to tell ones whole life.
Yet the Bible says that Adam and Eve had two sons; Cain and Abel. Cain was land tiller and Abel sheep keeper. They both offered sacrifices of their fruits and God pleased only with Abels and was displeased with Cains; which caused Cain to get wroth with Abel, and ultimately slew him.
    Genesis 4:
    11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brothers blood from thy hand;
12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.
A fugitive and vagabond shalt thou be, which means he would have no fixed settlement, he would move from place to place, he could be seen at a certain time and disappear again.
Verse 14 says Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; Now, was Cain really driven from the face of the earth? The earth is figurative of mans community. Cain lost harmony with the community.
Verse 16 says And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. But could Cain really depart from the presence of the LORD ? No. this simply means Cain lost fellowship with GOD; otherwise he was still in face of the LORD.
Verse 17: And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived,.. Now what may be the space of time between verses 16 and 17? It certainly took many years during which Adam and Eve were having other sons and daughters and Cain was coming and going as vagabond. It is in the course of this time that he got one of his siters for wife.
Genesis 5:4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:

This scripture is what it is. Biblical truth and proof. But I noticed how it shines as a bright light before many who have been in darkness for so long that they cannot stand to see the light. This verse make many people angry, very angry and I believe that those that are of God embrace this scripture because we seek the truth. Thank you God for your truth that you have given us.

    @Nelson,
The sin that the one born of GOD can not commit is the unforgivable sin, which is being born of the seed of the devil, and become a ''son or daughter of belial'', like we become sons and daughters of GOD.
Once one has come to this stage, that one can no more become a son or daughter of GOD, likewise, the one born of GOD can not become a son or daughter of belial. It is a high level sin that no one born of GOD can ever commit.
    GOD bless you

    @John,
John 3 :16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1 John 3 :16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
There has been no change at all, but rather a confusion you made between John which a gospel (good news) and 1 John which is an epistle (letter).
    GOD bless you.

Why did they change 1John 3-16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.... That was what I was taught as a child......

This chapter is the test for those who are looking at the Word of God. Do you pass the test of 1 John 3:9. Every pastor I have asked failed the test. The simplicity of this is beyond words.

In answer to Anonymous: Verse 6 "Whosoever abidith in him sinith not." also in Verse 9 "Whosoever is born of God doth not committ Sin; for His seed (The Holey Spirit) remaineth in him: and he connot sin; because he is born of God. When devil accusis a saints in the presence of the God the Father, the bible tels us that the Father sees only the blood of his son(Jesus) covering the Saints. Also the death of our Lord Jesus and the shedding of his blood and his resurrection fron the dead, fulfiled the requirements of the law, and the spirit of God became freely available to those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal saviour.
  • Anonymous on 1 John 3 - 12 years ago
In this entire chapter I noticed verse 4. God clearly tells us what sin is. 'Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.' Since we know that God cannot lie, why do the majority of Christians break the fourth commandment by going to church on Sunday, the first day of the week?

1 John 3:12 (Cain, who was of that wicked one) Serpent Seed - heteropaternalsuperfecundation
  • Timothy Wayne George on 1 John 3 - 12 years ago
We should love one another, and not be like Cain who was of the wicked one. He slew his brother, and wherefore did he slay his brother? Because his works were evil, and his brother's were righteous.
This is the commandment, that we believe on his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another as the commandment says.
God loves us with an ever lasting love, and commended his love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us. So let us not love in word only, but in deed. Praise God we love him because he first loved us. He has called us friends, and no greater love than this that he laid down his life for his friends.

John 3:1 "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: bloved, therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew Him not."

2 "Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as he is."

3 "And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure."

Paul said. "If thine eye be single, they body be full of light, but if thine eye be double, they body be full of darkness." Then he says, "ye cannot serve both God and mammon."

What he is saying is to keep our focus always on the things of God. If we look at the world as our saviour, we are lost. What does the world offer: The lust of the flesh. The beliefs we are both material and spiritual. God created us in His image. Therefore, instead of dwelling on the body, money, things etc. focus on the one FACT. God made us after His image. That is whom I am, no matter what the world says. If we focus on the temporal body, we are full of darkness. If we focus on the beliefs of others, we lose our focus. If we focus on money as our salvation from poverty, we lose our focus, health, etc. Focus, every time a challange comes, on the one fact. God made us in His image and likeness, and that is who you are. We are not made after Adams image and likness, that is what the world focuses on in its darkness. Adam and Eve chose to be as gods(little g),and they lost sight of their perfection as made in God's likeness. They then believed themselves as creators. Thus a disruptive enviroment became their focus. We chose to come into this world of their idoltry, to help bring the focus back into the Paridise God formed for our perfect enviroment, to strengeth our souls as children of God, so we never make the same mistake Adam and Eve did.

Keep thine eye single at all times. It is a wonderful way to stand with God, Jesus, the perfect son, and eternal life, forever in His perfection. God did not create a disruptive, dark, and discordent world. That came when the mist covered the eyes of Adam and Eve and they lost sight of whom they were in God's likeness.

Thus God found the willing heart, in the linage of Abraham, and brought us His word, in order for us to regain our sight on the eternal, perfect, wonderful world He created for us, which was lost sight of in the garden of Eden. Jesus was the sacrificaL LAMB, UNSPOTED FROM THE WORLD, TO BRING US THE PATH OF SALVATION. He said," I am the light of the world. Those whom follow me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." and more abundantly." "Come unto me ye that labor and are heavy laden and I shall give you rest."
My life has proven this. Every cross road, when I stayed focused on the light,(Truth)it has brought me through, in healing ways. It has not been easy, and I am greatful, as I might have lost focus, thinking I did not need God, and would not know the walk through the world through His unblemished son, is how I can overcome the world. His Love is eternal. Satins is a hate filled, sick, lost way, and is eternal darkness of which in these last times, all of its disruptions will be clensed away, from the earth, and lost forever from Paradise. Stay focused on the Fact you are created in the image of God. Find solice in the 91 psalm.

It was not my intention to leave the impression that living a"Holy life"was of no heavenly value.
I believe we too often place the "cart before the
horse." Jesus said "thou shalt love the Lord thy
God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, with all thy mind, and with all thy strength"mk.12:30.
We "do good," because we love Him, and thereby are
empowered by Him, to do those those things that He
desires. Jesus said"without Me ye can do nothing"
jn.15:5."For it is God which WORKETH in you, both
to will, and to do of HIS GOOD PLEASURE"phil.2:13.

I agree with "KP." If "fleshly perfection" is the
gateway to heaven, then the gates of heaven will be
closed to everyone. Years ago I asked my Pastor(a
    conditional salvation believer)"Pastor our Church
believes in order to make it to Heaven we must live a 'good' life, right?" To which he agreed. I
then asked him(in essence)"Pastor, given that 'good' and 'bad' are subjective terms, where do we
draw the line between JUST 'good enough' to go to
Heaven and JUST 'bad enough' to go to hell." He had no answer. I then responded by saying, "there
is a line between 'good' and 'bad' it's called the
'Blood line.' It's the 'Blood of JESUS' Pastor."

One of the greatest scriptures throughout all of the Bible is I John 3:9. It mannifests the extreme genius of God the Father. The ability to put in just one sentence some of the most significant truth regarding God's righteousness, justice and love the joy of our salvation, eternal security.

"Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin because he is born of God." I John 3:9

Let's review. First, who is born of God? "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God..." I John 5: 1 What happens when we are born of God? God the Father imputes to us judicial righteousness or perfection. We, in our new status, as judicially righteous, are considered perfect, "...doth not commit sin..." Understand, in context, this scripture is referring to a judicial perfection. Therefore, we do not sin(considered)perfect only from a judicial standpoint or rendering.

As I previously said, while commenting in the book of Romans we are considered judicially perfect and righteous yet still a sinner, an oxymoron of grace.

To continue. "...for his seed remaineth in him..." The seed of eternal life, once received, can never be removed. Why? Again, as I've said. Double jeopardy. God can never impute sin or condemn us again. Sin is dead, by virture of atonement, to the extent of penalty, spiritual death.

Such logic also explains the remaining part of this scripture "...and he cannot sin..."That is, we are eternally secure and nothing can separate us from the love of God since all sin is dead, resolved, unlimited atonement.

The scripture ends in circular fashion, to reiterate why we are secure, "...because we are born of God..."

Ton Dennis.....God's lOVE IS THE AGAPE' (unconditional love) We as the human (sin diseased though the SIN of ADAM) are saved from SIN. We do sin after we are sin 1 John also tells us that if say we have no sin we make God a liar. Sin is a the human condition. That's the reason we have an inward battle each and every day.
  • Jeff on 1 John 3 - 13 years ago
to Dennis Clough's comment. If Jesus died for the original sins, then why do women still go through pain when giving birth?
  • Dennis Clough on 1 John 3:9 - 13 years ago
The new nature never once sins; if it did, the Holy Spirit could not live there nor could we be sealed into the body of Christ. Christ has no sin so neither do we; He is risen to a new life and taken us with Him. Sin comes from the old nature which was crucified with Christ thus seperated from us in God's view.
  • Harold on 1 John 3:9 - 13 years ago
1John3:9 means what it says. Whosoever is born of God does not sin. Christians are born of God 1John5:1, so it is referring to Christians.
Using God's definitions of sin we see why God said what He did in 1John3:9
