My feeling is that the darkness is this world and the people of it , as opposed to people like us , Christians , who walk on the light , the light of course being Christ . Hope I explained that ok , and it's just my feeling about it .
  • Apostolic Evangelist - In Reply on 1 John 1 - 2 years ago
My question is darkness comprehended it not, what was this darkness ??

Dear Child of God, allow me to give you an example of darkness. So if we as Christians say I am in fellowship with Christ I have picked up my Cross and walk with Christ on the narrow road...??? So you went and Repented and was baptised and you entered the waters of Baptism defiled for you entered the waters with 3 vices out of the 7 vices that you did not remove before entering the waters You still are in darkness.....Or you did remove all 7 vices before entering the waters of Baptism but returned to satans material world for you could not give up the luxurious life style you are used to, well you are in darkness you do Not walk in the light as Christ does...We lie and do not practice the Truth....This is where the churches have deceived many Christians by entering the waters of Baptism defiled......We are not perfect nor can we be for we are in flesh but we can only try each day to be perfect so when our Fathers sees us trying so hard to remove all 7 vices from us then he allows a helping hand. Then you will feel the Light upon your heart full of joy is all you feel....And this is when you will receive the Gifts of the Spirit

.God bless The Grace of our Father God be with you...

Hello Jarome. I'm sure that you'll be greatly blessed in your meticulous study of the Gospel of John & for the many Truths that reveal more of Christ contained therein.

As you have read from the first verse in the Gospel, the subject is Jesus. And John develops on this: that from the very beginning (from eternity), God's Word was intrinsically a part of the Godhead. All things were made by Him (i.e. from the Word proceeding from the Mouth of God). And in this Word there was life: not only giving out those words that gave life, but the Word to be made flesh would be the giving of life itself. And this Life would shine to all men (especially those in that day), but they never saw that Light - they saw the Man Jesus but they continued to live in the absence of His Light - in darkness, shutting their eyes & mind to the Light from God.

Even now, we can see how people without the Light of Christ, live in spiritual darkness - most even believing that their darkness is actually light. Jesus spoke of this in Matthew 6:23 b: "...If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!". What men see as light (their knowledge & mental prowess, creative abilities, power over others, etc.), Jesus says that without Him, they are still living in darkness. They might do well on Earth (in their lifetimes), but what will all that matter when eternity calls upon them? But when those abilities are coupled with spiritual light, love for God & for His Son, & a submission to Him only, then they can truly experience "the light of life" ( John 8:12). And so John the Baptist came bearing witness of that Light (one could say, he came shining the flashlight of God's great Plan - until the radiant Light of His Son would appear to all). Unfortunately, as you know, most having seen that Light, still preferred to live in darkness (in sin, following traditions, even trusting the Law & their heritage to save them). But some came to the Light, basked in it & found freedom.

John the first chapter it says Jesus is the light that shined in the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not, what was this darkness?? Could it be people who don't believe???I'm studying the book john with a fine tooth comb, cause what to know exactly what it's message is, I'm trying to relive this thing as if I was there myself. Hello Joyce. I'm not sure of the reference you're thinking of, but when we look at examples such as Psalm 73:26 or Lamentations 3:24, the phrase that God is "my portion", speaks of God being their 'possession'. This demonstrates by the Psalmist & Jeremiah (in Lamentations), that God was their special possession Who provided them with the confidence & strength to face whatever the uncertain future held for them.

John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 2 - As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 - And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 4 - I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5 - And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. 6 - I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 7 - Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

    Hi Mona.

I believe it means to Look closely upon, to examine or observe.

    Greek:

    Transliteration: theaomai

    Pronunciation: theh-ah'-om-ahee

Definition: A prolonged form of a primary verb; to look closely at that is (by implication) to perceive (literally or figuratively); by extension to visit : - behold look (upon) see. Compare G3700 .

    I hope that helps.

    God bless.

In I John 1:1, what is the difference in the Greek between, "which we have seen with our eyes" and "which we have looked upon" OR is John just repeating himself for emphasis???
  • Bob - In Reply on 1 John 1 - 2 years ago
Yes there certainly is a difference, yet God is father of all .
  • Carleton - In Reply on 1 John 1 - 2 years ago
Hello Bob, is there a difference between Adam as the son of God and believers as sons of God and Jesus the Son of God as written in the scriptures? In my heart , there is a reason for the capitalization.
  • Adam - In Reply on 1 John 1 - 2 years ago
    Dear Leon,

Looks like you've had people replying and offering fake news. I'm sorry you had to receive that. Their positions are mostly based on a human logical fallacy, for example: "Jesus is the son of God, therefore in my limited human mind, Jesus can't be God, despite the many verses saying He is": Link

Also, the name "God" can refer to God the Father or God the trinity. The trinity is clearly explained in the Bible: Link - God is plural in many cases and uses the pronoun "we": Genesis 1:26.

Others spread anti-Christian propaganda that the trinity is somehow polytheism, which is another hateful attack based on a lie. Just because someone has a hard time comprehending how they are "one" ( John 10:30) doesn't mean 'more than one'. It clearly says they are one God. That's like someone assuming the skin of an orange, the pulp, and seeds are 3 oranges.

So, once someone reads the Word they can choose to either believe it or not. Those who don't want to believe the trinity have to perform mental gymnastics to try to discredit the book, the author, the context, the intent, the Greek, etc. It's the same old trick and most of us don't buy into it.

We will believe God's Word over man's words any day. We believe the Word is God's truth and when we read literally that Jesus is the Word and John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" then we have faith and believe it says exactly what it means, without anyone trying to be cute and deceive otherwise. We will lovingly call out fake news, propaganda, and false prophets everytime we see it.

Please ignore anyone trying to undermine what the Bible says and trying to discredit Jesus. Anyone trying to do that should be ashamed of themselves and should beware of doing the devil's work.

    God bless...

Yes Adam was made in the image of God

Jesus was made in the image of God .

Jesus is the second Adam a Quickening spirit .

The first Adam was a living soul .

God is father of all .

Hello Bob, These scriptures in Luke came to mind.

    Luke 3:36-38

Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem which was the son of Noe, Which was the son of Mathusula, which was the son of Enoch, which was the son of Jared, which was the son of Maleleel, which was the son of Cainan, Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
  • Bob - In Reply on 1 John 1 - 2 years ago
Jesus asked the his disciples, who do you say I am ?

Peter got it right when he said the Christ , son of the living God . Jesus said he was taught by God and blessed for knowing this .

Jesus never said IAM GOD , but that I came from GOD , so he is Gods son .

Being one with God is a relationship . We also can have this relationship, read John 17 .

    John 8 v , 18,19 , 29 , 42

    V 54 ,55

Jesus gives credit to his father as being His source , makes perfect sense that Jesus is Gods son .

Many other examples in the Bible Jesus gives God the credit for who he is and where he came from . Jesus is the Son of God .

I cannot understand how -expletive that called themselves find it so hard to believe in their hearts that Jesus is also God . Jesus himself says that he is God . Read from John chapter 8 verses 54 -59 . Jesus answered the Jews saying if I honour myself my honour is nothing it is my Father that honoureth me of whom you say that he is your God yet you have not known him but I kimonos him and if should say that I know him not I shall be a liar like unto you :but I know him and keep his saying .your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day and he saw it and was glad, then said the Jews unto Jesus thou are not yet fifty years old and has thou seen Abraham ?Jesus said unto them Before Abraham was I AM.

here in John chapter 8 verse 58 . Jesus our lord and savior declared who he truly is God the great I am .

Even to the prophet Isaiah in chapter 9 verse 6 declared That Jesus is the mighty God and the everlasting Father .

    Verse 4 John chapter 1

4 ) In him was life, and that *life* was the light of men.
  • Dc - In Reply on 1 John 1 - 3 years ago
Oh please... Read the gospel of John.

The Bible is the true inerrant Word of God. It says in John 1:

1 ) In the begginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 ) He was with God in the beginning.

3 ) Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

4 ) In him was life, and that light was the light of men.

5 ) The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

    God is a triune being:

    Father

    Son

    Holy Spirit

    Three persons but One God.

Jesus the Son spoke the universe into existence. Jesus is the Word. Jesus has many names. God has many names.

We must be careful to not lead people astray. We should only comment on God and the Bible by using scripture to support our beliefs.

    With love and prayers,
