    J. Thorton - Paul is asking 4 questions - to which the answers would be "yes". to all 4. V. 2 - "If I be not ... to others ..." refers to those who do not believe Paul's testimony - Jews, Gentiles. Alto' there were many Jews 'n Gentiles that believed - there were many more that didn't ( Matt. 20:16); And it is still this way today.

To Brenda - On the road to Damascus the BRIGHT light was Jesus; as He said, "I am the light of the world." He showed Himself like this also in John's vision of Rev.
  • Seven Trumpets on 1 Corinthians 9 - 7 years ago
The Lord APPEARED to him when he was still called "Saul," while he was on the way to Damascus, to arrest the Disciples there. The Lord also APPEARED at other times to "Paul" when he was suffering trials and tribulations and persecutions. The Lord has APPEARED at times, to some very blessed Saints throughout history; but most don't ever get told those things; and they don't know about them.

I don't understand how Paul could ask the question; "Have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord?" I didn't read about Paul until Acts. By the time the book of Acts was written, Jesus had already been crucified. Paul was on the scene when Stephen was stoned to death in Acts 7:58.

The gospel of God cometh only from God, our Father which art in heaven. Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: Father, the hour is come glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. The mercy of man is toward his neighbour but the mercy of the Lord is upon all flesh: he reproveth, and nurtureth, and teacheth and bringeth again, as a shepherd his flock. Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
  • Norm on 1 Corinthians 9 - 7 years ago
All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. For God made not death: neither hath he pleasure in the destruction of the living. For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

we should try as much as possible to spread the gospel all over the world. in our places of work, job and business so that we can fulfill the desire of God. We should also try to be good disciples and teach those who doesn't know anything about it so that God will be pleased with us.

Brianna, I like your questioning about the hirelings that we see preaching. Most out there today are in it for profit, preachers, teacher, authors, singers, schools. Even under the law of God that tells them when to step down they don't.
  • Brianna on 1 Corinthians 9 - 8 years ago
Vs 18 sticks out to me. Primarily that the Bible constantly talks about the word of God being free, and without charge. Jesus said let it be given free, and here even Paul confirms that life's waters should be given free. This makes me question those who have taken on the role as a pastor/ priest for profit.
  • Reshma Armogan on 1 Corinthians 9 - 8 years ago
We should make it our duty to work for the lord and take no praise for it. We should reach people where they are and not wait for them to come to us. We should run the race to receive eternal life.

It 's all there. Even though one is called, you can lose yourreward, eternal life, through lack of discipline. The Bible even speaks of giving such people over to the devil so that, while thier body would be lost, their soul would be preserved. You can 't live is you want, and make it into heaven. Holiness, without which NO MAN shall see God

Practice what we preach... The power of the gospel transform lives out of darkness into His marvelous light. As preachers of the gospel we should be the living examples of that transforming power.

Jesus like to use an ordinary man to make him an extra ordinary man. Jesus revealed his Holy Spirit to Paul to preached the good news as Paul witnesses Jesus life, his teaching, his healing and he witness that Jesus is the Son of the Living God which he can only gives life to the poor. Paul truly believed on Jesus that he felt Jesus power on him. Paul start praising and thanking Jesus for giving him authority to preach the good news. This is how a true servants serving Jesus without expecting any rewards but to follow and love Jesus

Ministers perform the most important duty of giving the eternal Word of God to a lost world. How could they hear except He sends a preacher? Thank God for the man of God and when we see Jesus it will be worth it all.

May God help us not to set our hearts on the corruptible glory of sports and martial arts in this temporal and fading life. May he give us the grace to deny ourselves the pride of life and it's lusts. Lord please help us keep our eyes you and to strive for the things of God and not worldly things to make us look great.

I might become a castaway through neglect, rebellion, or apathy toward my Lord and my God. However, His word does not become useless regardless of the vessel containing it. Some of the proof of election to office holder is endurance through suffering for the word, not losing faith in the midst of fiery trials, and not allowing foolish thinking and talking to cause us to blaspheme the vital Holy Spirit. It involves clinging to that Almighty hand in spite of every physical, mental, and spiritual attack that might make those persons who are not truly committed to the Lord begin to turn back to the ways of the world (like Lot's wife did) due to disillusionment, discouragement and hungers for things God's people have divorced themselves from. Thank God that Jesus never became discouraged and He will not forsake those who remain true to Him through every trial. "Even a broken vessel has use to God if it is clean."

1ST.Corinthian 9 clearly states the union of marriage between man and woman Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. was God's natural order of things, sanctified by God. Man was not ment to be alone, that is why God gave him a help mate.

The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 7:1-2, 1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
While Paul preferred celibacy for himself, I don't believe he wanted to make it a requirement for church leaders or members. He is stressing that marriage is the way to avoid fornication. He isn't worried that marriage will divide our attention between church service and worldly matters, he's concerned about sin doing that. Thus, while stating that celibacy is good, he is also promoting marriage to prevent the real problem of sin. Paul sums up that this is the choice of the believer and warns of those that forbid marriage (see 1 Timothy 4:1-3).
