The KJV translation makes a difference other tongues and unknown tongues for a reason This reason is because when a person first initially recieves the Holy Ghost they speak in other tongues an language understood on earth Once one has recieved this baptism they speak in the unknown tongue because that is unto God The initial sign of others tongues is for the unbeliever as proof that the Holy Ghost is real The unknown tongue is used in praying to God and in the tongues and interpetation and the gift of tongues

I think it is so sad that so many people who call themselves Christians rebel against scriptures that are not politically correct Paul isn t saying anything new here but I guess rebelling isn t anything new either
  • Vincent on 1 Corinthians 14:38 - 10 years ago
here paul was inphasising that what he is writting everyone should take into account and practise it in all churches around the world
  • Glen Waites on 1 Corinthians 14:2 - 10 years ago
I read this version of the bible all the time I think we can learn from the scriptures
  • Leonard Dale on 1 Corinthians 14:5 - 10 years ago
I think it is them speaking in there own language that why they need an interpretation
  • KJB on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
Verse 38 says,"But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant." A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself. ( Titus 3:10-11). The Holy Spirit will bear witness to the truth. You saw in the verses that God used the deceiver to decieve those who wouldn't receive the love of the truth. I don't have to conform to this world and use "good words and fair speeches to DECEIVE the hearts of the simple."( Rom 16:18). This modern world is all about love, love, love, and don't see both sides of God. They aren't serving the God of the Bible. A lopsided God is who they are serving today. God is a God of love, but also of wrath. When the Church is caught out (Cor ch 15 and 1 Thess 4) the world will see God's wrath ( Rev 6:17). Have a nice day! That was positive :)

to kjb,i think you need to think about what u are saying, roots of bitterness is a terrible thing along with your pride,if you would stop and think we are actually saying the same thing but you for some reason have a hang up and want God to be the deciever, you err by not knowing who God is,how he works nor his purpose for man nor his power,
  • KJB on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
"Sir I'm sorry you can't read 4th grade English. " I THE LORD HAVE DECEIVED THAT PROPHET,"( Ezekiel 14:9). I agreed you made a good point. If you will read ( I doubt it) let these Scriptures (KJB) flip your wig, and pray about this about 10 years. ( 2 Sam 24:1) And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and He moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. ( 1 Chr 21:1) Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. Now you know the Bible doesn't contradict. ( Job 1:12) And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in THY POWER; now look at ( Job 2:3) "and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou MOVEDST ME against him, to destroy him without cause." You want a hint to the answer? The LORD's axe is sharpened on the Devil's grindstone ~Havner. "
  • Davie on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
to kjb,you misunderstand what is being said,God decieves the deciever,do a study of the words decieved,deciever,etc..from gen to rev and you will get understanding,2tim3:13."but evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, decieving, and being decieved." job12:16"the decieved and the deciever are his" 1tim2:4"Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth" dont take a few verses out of context and try2make God out to be the deciever,
  • KJB on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
Sir, you said "God doesnt decieve or tempt anyone", then you said "God sent the deceiving spirits into people". I think I see what you mean. God allows people who have been "deceiving, and being deceived"( 2 Tim 3:13) to be deceived. If that is the case, I will agree to that. You make a good point.
  • Davie on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
again,God sent the deceiving spirits into people who already chose to decieve and be decieved, think about it,was it true prophets or men of faith that God sent the lieing spirit to? no,they already were false prophets, the decievers initial begins with an S,
  • The KJB on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
Please read the verses. ( Ezekiel 14:9) "And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I THE LORD HAVE DECEIVED THAT PROPHET," ( 1 Kings 22:23) "Now therefore, behold, the LORD HATH PUT a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets," Thats why you must read the Bible and believe what it SAYS not what you read into it. God allows the Devil to do things by His premissive will. He lets the Devil deceive people who will not hearken to His word. ( 1 Cor 14:38)
  • Davie on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
God doesnt decieve or tempt anyone, the strong delusion thats sent by God in the last days is to an apostate wicked corrupt church and world who have already decieved themselves and others, our Lord God is going to send them what they asked for, they dont want the true Christ, his grace, forgiveness, his pure word and sound doctrine, his Spirit and his life,so God,s going to give them the One behind all the corrupt bibles, false doctrine, false religions, new age, witchcraft, evolution etc...and they will all lap it up with joy,as all tables are full of vomit,God says
  • The KJB on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
Some are not going to listen to the word even though clear scriptures are given. That's why Paul said what he said in ( 1 Cor 14:28). He knew many wouldn't listen. They have idols in their heart so God deceives them. Please read Ezekiel chapter 14, and 1 Kings 22 then understand ( 2 Thess 2:11) And for this cause GOD SHALL SEND them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: Read it and it will help you. You are responsible for the light shown to you. Amen.
  • Jenny on 1 Corinthians 14:32 - 10 years ago
Thank you for answering this I sat in a service where they were putting down people who are used to Prophesy, I know the Spirit of the Prophet is subject to the Prophet. God dropped a message in my spirit where there was no opportunity to give it. I waited until the next day when the opportunity clearly presented itself. These people were saying this scripture means we need to sift through the message. I thought that is like God saying I want to say this, is that ok? I am not a prophet though God has used me. I have a hard time. Once I let it go it flows like a river, like speaking in tongues. How could I stop it, or take back anything the Lord says? It is bad enough the way it seems like every spirit in the room zooms in on me. Then for someone to say it is wrong, and that God doesn't do it that way, nor is the old testament needed now, since Jesus fufilled it we can throw it away.
  • Thy word is truth on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
Concerning tongues. They are for a sign. Look at verse 22. ( 1 Cor 1:22) Says that the Jews! require a sign. Now go back and read Acts chapters 2,10,19 and see that Jews were present everytime tongues are spoken. Tongues are languages unknown to the speaker but known to the hearer in order for God to get His message across. Check this verse ( Acts 2:8) And how hear we every man in our own TONGUE, wherein we were born? Now look up at verse 6. ",because that every man heard them speak in his own language." According to the Bible this is Biblical tongues, not jibber jabber. Check out the Hindu's for further insight into this movement. Good day.

Paul is clearly trying to set order in the church. He gives his directions for order in the church as he is pastoring this church. Any pastor of a church will have to set boundaries as well. This is a good template to go by, but we do know that the Holy Spirit reveals to us what we must do as well. As for women speaking, it is truly up to the pastor as the Holy Spirit directs him.
  • Shupe on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
men did not silence women god did it is said again in 1 timothy 2:11 and 12.women are to learn in silence and are not to teach I don't understand why It has to do with eve in the garden and men were not told to be silent in church the one speaking in tongues is to keep silent if there in not a interpreter.
  • Joyce on 1 Corinthians 14:2 - 10 years ago
Speaking in an unknown tongue give you exclusivity with God. Only he can understand you. Therefore, the devil can't interrupt your answer as he did with Daniel.
  • Linda on 1 Corinthians 14:14 - 10 years ago
This scripture means a lot as I also pray and worship in tongues. Sometimes when I am in deep prayer of worship, it is hard to continue in my own language as this language comes from heaven, it is from the Holy Spirit.
  • Carmela on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
I cant believe that with this one verse that is taken out of context (read the entire chapter) that men have silenced half the congregation of God. Half the body of Christ. Half of heaven. How very sad. Luckily I can sing though, somehow, even though l am supposed to remain silent. Go figure!!!
  • Carmela on 1 Corinthians 14:35 - 10 years ago
If you read that verse in the context of the entire chapter you will find that Paul is addressing the congregation about doing things in a orderly manner and if read even more carefully you will see that Paul even tells 'THE MEN TO BE SILENT' to talk one at a time. This verse relates to women who were married in the first place, so does that mean unmarried women can speak. Ridiculous. So Paul was addressing the fact of women who chat to much while the person at the front is speaking and if they are speaking because of curious intentions then to ask there husbands at home. PS Not every woman has a husband now do they. Read the entire chapter! and re-read it and re-read it and pray for Gods wisdom while doing it.

I think the whole of 1 Cor 14 is telling us to desire the Gift of prophesy.
Lately I have been thinking about the implications of the Holy Spirit giving you this gift. I believe it means the words in your mouth will be given by the same Holy Spirit. Proof of this is the word of Ezek 3: 26-27.
The gift of prophesy demands utter surrender to God, which makes it a very hard gift to receive.
But Jesus did this - so why not us?

Galatians 3:28 - There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus
  • Audrey on 1 Corinthians 14:32 - 10 years ago
reading this scripture, i believe, as a minster of the gospel and active in my prophetic gifts, that this scripture leaves us to understand that the individual under the anointing of God/Holy spirit has the opportunity to refuse to respond to the will of the Holy spirit. We are flesh and have our free will. The choice to submit ourselves is always present. We make a choice to submit ourselves to the Holy spirit and be used by it.

CHAPTER 14:34 OF 1COR. PAUL, A WELL LEARNED APOSTLE OF CHRIST CLEARLY MADE US UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE CHURCH. NOT THAT WOMEN SHOULD NOT PREACH BUT THAT THEY ARE NOT TO PREACH IN A CONGREGATION OF MEN AND WOMEN. IN TITUS 2:2-5, APOSTLE PAUL ADMONISHED THE OLDER WOMEN TO TEACH THE YOUNG WOMEN THE WAY TO LIVE A HEALTHY FAMILY LIVE. A WOMAN CAN BECOME ANYTHING IN THE WORLD. SHE CAN RISE TO THE POSITION OF PRESIDENT OF A COUNTRY. BUT PREACHING WORK IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE MEN. THEY ARE TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR HUSBAND AND CHILDREN AT HOME. THEY ARE TO HELP IN BUILDING A STRONG FAMILY. OUR GOD IS A GOD OF ORDER. IF WOMEN ARE ALLOWED TO PREACH JUST LIKE THE MEN, WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF THE HOME? FOR ANYONE WHO HAVE DOUBT CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, SUCH SHOULD PLEASE VERSE 34 WHERE APOSTLE WARNED THAT IF ANY MAN THINK HIMSELF TO BE A PROPHET, HE SHOULD KNOW THAT WHAT HE IS SAYING ARE NOT HIS WORDS BUT THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD. WE SHOULD RATHER OBEY GOD THAN FOLLOW OUR OWN INSTINCT.
  • Clark on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
Your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, Acts ch2 Peter refering back to Joel ch2. Chap. 14 Corinthians starts out with new birth,.. a prayer language, then to preaching, then to tongues and interpretation, the the identity of prophets, then church biz. Then forbid not tongues, then a orderly fashion, then acknowledgment ... so women can parti icipate in spiritual events just not church biz.
  • Mary on 1 Corinthians 14:34 - 10 years ago
Thank you! I appreciate m ike's comment as well as Zablon's word that "God's Word is settled". As for me, I will be glad to keep silent, knowing that in this way I am submitting and obeying God and the pastor as well as honoring the order of worship and, in my own quiet way, pleasing the Lord. I needed this. God bless you for speaking the truth in love.
  • _Rosalina_Sayson_Ko_Tapay_ on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
Let us FOLLOW the COMMANDMENT of our Lord Jesus Christ saying, "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth" (1-Timothy 3:15). "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen" ( Matthew 28:19-20). MEANING: If the apostles taught us saying, "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church" (1-Corinthians 14:34-35), THEN we must OBEY it WITHOUT QUESTIONING.
  • Inez on 1 Corinthians 14 - 10 years ago
Let us view this chapter within the context of cultural practices.....What was the Jewish customs of the day....what was the real issue why Paul had to say the women should keep silent....Remember Paul was really focusing on getting the word across to people clearly and with minimal disturbances...I've heard that with men and women seated separately and the focus was on men....the wives use to look to their husband for clarity of the teachings on spot and the cross talk was rather disturbing and limiting hence the rule.....
