Jatinder, perhaps you should consider what it says again, that 'God is not the author of confusion '. Man is the one who is supposed to dispense authority in a married relationship, the same as Christ is the ultimate authority of the Church. It follows that man is the head of the women, if there is no ultimate authority confusion will inevitabley ensue between the married couple. So as Christians I think we should simply accept what is being said here. Also I think we all need to be very careful when deciding to marry, that the couple embody Christians virtues for the success of the relationship. God bless!

I wonder why is it written in 1 Corinthians 14:34 that women should keep silent in the church - - -. In today 's world, women too are very well educated, to the extent that once a blue moon I 've heard females, whether from India or abroad seen preaching in the church.
  • Chuck on 1 Corinthians 14 - 8 years ago
because the man is the head of the household as Jesus Christ is the head of the church

In response to Bill and Porshia, women are to be silent in church. And silent also means PREACHING,teaching, prophesying, praying, and anything else that qualifies as Speaking. This portion of Scripture is very clear easy to understand. THANKS and GOD BLESS
  • David Pollard on 1 Corinthians 14:5 - 9 years ago
Thank you for the help, I now understand.
  • Bill on 1 Corinthians 14 - 9 years ago
This is in response to "Porchia 's " question on Chapter 14:34. This particular verse has been scrutinized and perverted by many that teach within the church. But, let me emphasize on this, this verse you are asking about, such as verse 34 is speaking of the women when prophecy was spoken in church. As verse 29-31 will shed light as to what was taking place as verse 34 follows. The women were to remain silent, not permitted to speak. "They are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. " Chapter 11:3 explains the law it speaking of. The head of the woman is man. The woman is to ask her husband at home and he is to teach her. This particular verse is not speaking anything about being a preacher. You will find in 1 Timothy the mention of teaching and what was forbidden.
  • Porchia on 1 Corinthians 14 - 9 years ago
So is verse 14:34 saying that a women should not be a preacher in the church ?

when you speak in an unknown tongue, not just a tongue but the tongues of angels you edify yourself, you sanctify yourself..when you speak in tongues your spirit mind becomes active..I bless God that I speak in tongues...keep your good work on ,,,,,,,,,,
  • Motdaugrnds on 1 Corinthians 14 - 9 years ago
This chapter makes clear to me that God expects us to "reason " together for our edification, i.e. that we may grow into fruitful beings making use of the "meat " of the word unto sanctification.
  • Je Suis Mark on 1 Corinthians 14 - 9 years ago
When Jesus comes again every tongue shall confess that Jesus is the Lord. Until then I will continue to speak in tongues. Please don 't forbid me because I find that when I do "it edifies my soul ".

All spiritual gifts, given unto the bride of Christ, are for edification of the Church. If one professes to have a certain gift, such as the gift of tongues, this gift is for the building of the Church, that mystical Bride of Christ, that she should become partaker of the beauty of holiness. Now, humility meekness submission is to beautify each gift with holiness. All spiritual gifts are for the exaltation and edification of the Church body. It is not to puff up the individual with selfish pride arrogance. Each gift ought to serve, not that one member be served with applause of adoration. For Christ possessed the fullness of grace and truth, yet chose to humble Himself, never testifying of Himself, and always doing the will of His Father. He would not exalt Himself, though He had all power and grace and truth to magnify Himself. But He would not for He came to serve as the Servant of servants. Hence we sinners ought not to magnify ourselves above anyone, though we be spiritually gifted. Spiritual gifts are for the magnification of Christ and of His bride body. The hand is not greater than the foot. Though the hand and foot work and serve different purpose they both labor for the edification of the body as a whole. For who maketh the to differ from one another. One plants, another waters. But it is God that giveth the increase.

We are all nothing. "Man, even at his best state ", ghandi, mother theresa, judges, lawyers, police officers, even the soldier who lays down his life for his brother in arms, "is altogether vanity, and less than nothing. Whatever goodness any creature possesses, it is only because of God 's mercy and grace to them. For in Him we live and move and breathe and we have our being. He is the Energizer and Sustainer of all powers and minds and wills and hearts and souls and spirits and bodily frames. For every good gift cometh down from the Father of Lights, with Whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning, for He maketh His sun to rise on the just, and the unjust, and causes His rain to fall upon the good and the evil.

I really love this chapter because it puts it very simply, for all is made very manifest in 2 verses. Prophecies shall fail, tongues cease, knowledge vanish. Faith, hope, and love will always endure in for all believers in this world through which they pilgrimmage as strangers and foreigners. But the greatest is love, because once glorified, faith shall become the possessor of Love, and hope the attainer of love. For they shall know, love incarnate, even as they are known, foreknown by the eternal love of God. Love of God.
  • Ronnie on 1 Corinthians 14:39 - 9 years ago
I believe tongues have ceased. But not only tongues, but that now all prophecies from man "fail " and all knowledge has "vanished away " because that which is perfect, "the Wprd of God " which God has "magnified above all His Name " and which endureth forever. Though heaven and earth, prophecies, tongues, and knowledge of sinful men, and corrupt minds, shall pass away. The Word is the fulness of prophecy, the final tongue, fulness of knowledge. For the law came by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ, the Word Who became flesh, and of His fulness have we all received. And grace for grace.

All i can say is God never changes .man makes void the word of God by his traditions

Tongues are for the believer, prophecy is what convinces the unbeliever, that the speaker is a true messenger from God.
  • Sophia on 1 Corinthians 14 - 9 years ago
But in Genesis 11 chapter 7 th verse --come let us go down and confuse their language---here God was also with Jesus and Holy spirit. Then why did he say those words? Even if men wanted to built a tower which can reach Heavens they can 't reach the real skies. Then how to understand all this?
  • M. Netshiavhela on 1 Corinthians 14 - 9 years ago
God desires that we should have spiritual gifts at our desires. spiritual gifts have not ceased. interpretation of tongues can address the confussion of tongues. spiritual gifts should help and unite the church and not divide the church and seeks to glorify God.
  • Pst.Chivatsi. on 1 Corinthians 14:33 - 9 years ago
Our Living God is a God of peace and anything that courses confusion is from the devil.
  • Eyes of our Father on 1 Corinthians 14 - 9 years ago
Keep His word pure. Keep life simple. Say what you mean, mean what you say and do good in communication. This is the application of this scripture.
  • Rob on 1 Corinthians 14:33 - 9 years ago
It is revelations like this that God gives us firm foundations in understanding His true character through His unfailing Word. If you are facing something in life that appears to be confusing and decieving rebuke the devourer and call upon the living God who is waiting to reveal His plan of peace to you through the shed blood of His Son Jesus. Keep this revelation hid in your heart to comfort and protect in times of need. 2 Chronicles 15:2 The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.
  • MockingBird on 1 Corinthians 14:33 - 9 years ago
If there is confusion in any area of my life I need to get it straightened up and get right with God. Honesty and integrity goes a long way with God. Be honest with yourself : sometimes I have to recognize a thing as it truly is , which is sometimes hard to swallow !!!! I turn myself and change it and I will have the Peace of God that passes all understanding .
  • Katherine Ledbetter on 1 Corinthians 14:35 - 9 years ago
I believe it is a parallel verse to I Timothy 2 11,12. Eve made it impossible for God to entrust us women with ourselves. We are too emotional and easily swayed, and also can easily sway the emotions of others. The Bible is clear that we must "Study to shew thyself approved unto God,... " So, study and ask for wisdom, but realize with much wisdom comes grief Ecclesiastes 1 18 . God will hold you accountable for what you want to know.
  • Becky on 1 Corinthians 14:34 - 9 years ago
Women prophesier 's existed and are welcome to prophecy. Can it be that there are times when it is ok and times when it is not ok speak.Didn 't Jesus tell Mary to go and tell that he is risen? So there are times when it is acceptable. We should teach our children, we have our hands full enough and men should take the lead at church. So men get some more men into church.

Amen, Nothing but the Truth! We are all redeemed by Christ as faithful saved believers but serve different functions. As a family has a dad and mom, the church family is set up in a similar fashion.
  • Nothing but the Truth on 1 Corinthians 14:34 - 9 years ago
Many times in recent yrs women friends of mind in the Lord have approached me to visit their churches which have women Pastors, and trust me, these women are so called Bible loving Christians who know the Word of God. I 've more than once been tempted to visit some of these churches, but something within me the Holy Spirit has held me back. For the simple reason that the LORD has said in several verses that women are not to have spiritual leadership over the flock! and personally I have no problem at all with obeying this command. For me political considerations should NEVER super impose themselves above the word of GOD, period! end of discussion! Amen.
  • Joni G on 1 Corinthians 14 - 9 years ago
Jacob, two instances are listed in the New Testament where believers spoke in other languages the Day of Pentecost and Acts 10. The laying of of hands died out in the first century. We don 't have speaking in tongues, languages today. I agree. Isn 't it wonderful how the gospel is being spread in many languages and people can hear, believe and obey our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, the only Begotten Son of God! Praise God! I also wanted to add that I believe verse 34 holds true today. Women should keep silent in the churches.
