Some are not going to listen to the word even though clear scriptures are given. That's why Paul said what he said in (1 Cor 14:28). He knew many wouldn't listen. They have idols in their heart so God deceives them. Please read Ezekiel chapter 14, and 1 Kings 22 then understand ( 2 Thess 2:11) And for this cause GOD SHALL SEND them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: Read it and it will help you. You are responsible for the light shown to you. Amen.
  • Jenny for verse 32
Thank you for answering this I sat in a service where they were putting down people who are used to Prophesy, I know the Spirit of the Prophet is subject to the Prophet. God dropped a message in my spirit where there was no opportunity to give it. I waited until the next day when the opportunity clearly presented itself. These people were saying this scripture means we need to sift through the message. I thought that is like God saying I want to say this, is that ok? I am not a prophet though God has used me. I have a hard time. Once I let it go it flows like a river, like speaking in tongues. How could I stop it, or take back anything the Lord says? It is bad enough the way it seems like every spirit in the room zooms in on me. Then for someone to say it is wrong, and that God doesn't do it that way, nor is the old testament needed now, since Jesus fufilled it we can throw it away.
  • Thy word is truth
Concerning tongues. They are for a sign. Look at verse 22. (1 Cor 1:22) Says that the Jews! require a sign. Now go back and read Acts chapters 2,10,19 and see that Jews were present everytime tongues are spoken. Tongues are languages unknown to the speaker but known to the hearer in order for God to get His message across. Check this verse (Acts 2:8) And how hear we every man in our own TONGUE, wherein we were born? Now look up at verse 6. ",because that every man heard them speak in his own language." According to the Bible this is Biblical tongues, not jibber jabber. Check out the Hindu's for further insight into this movement. Good day.

Paul is clearly trying to set order in the church. He gives his directions for order in the church as he is pastoring this church. Any pastor of a church will have to set boundaries as well. This is a good template to go by, but we do know that the Holy Spirit reveals to us what we must do as well. As for women speaking, it is truly up to the pastor as the Holy Spirit directs him.
  • Shupe
men did not silence women god did it is said again in 1 timothy 2:11 and 12.women are to learn in silence and are not to teach I don't understand why It has to do with eve in the garden and men were not told to be silent in church the one speaking in tongues is to keep silent if there in not a interpreter.
  • Joyce for verse 2
Speaking in an unknown tongue give you exclusivity with God. Only he can understand you. Therefore, the devil can't interrupt your answer as he did with Daniel.
  • Linda for verse 14
This scripture means a lot as I also pray and worship in tongues. Sometimes when I am in deep prayer of worship, it is hard to continue in my own language as this language comes from heaven, it is from the Holy Spirit.
  • Carmela
I cant believe that with this one verse that is taken out of context (read the entire chapter) that men have silenced half the congregation of God. Half the body of Christ. Half of heaven. How very sad. Luckily I can sing though, somehow, even though l am supposed to remain silent. Go figure!!!
  • Carmela for verse 35
If you read that verse in the context of the entire chapter you will find that Paul is addressing the congregation about doing things in a orderly manner and if read even more carefully you will see that Paul even tells 'THE MEN TO BE SILENT' to talk one at a time. This verse relates to women who were married in the first place, so does that mean unmarried women can speak. Ridiculous. So Paul was addressing the fact of women who chat to much while the person at the front is speaking and if they are speaking because of curious intentions then to ask there husbands at home. PS Not every woman has a husband now do they. Read the entire chapter! and re-read it and re-read it and pray for Gods wisdom while doing it.
  • I think the whole of 1 Cor 14 is telling us to desire the Gift of prophesy.
Lately I have been thinking about the implications of the Holy Spirit giving you this gift. I believe it means the words in your mouth will be given by the same Holy Spirit. Proof of this is the word of Ezek 3: 26-27.
The gift of prophesy demands utter surrender to God, which makes it a very hard gift to receive.
But Jesus did this - so why not us?

Galatians 3:28 - There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus
  • Audrey for verse 32
reading this scripture, i believe, as a minster of the gospel and active in my prophetic gifts, that this scripture leaves us to understand that the individual under the anointing of God/Holy spirit has the opportunity to refuse to respond to the will of the Holy spirit. We are flesh and have our free will. The choice to submit ourselves is always present. We make a choice to submit ourselves to the Holy spirit and be used by it.

CHAPTER 14:34 OF 1COR. PAUL, A WELL LEARNED APOSTLE OF CHRIST CLEARLY MADE US UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE CHURCH. NOT THAT WOMEN SHOULD NOT PREACH BUT THAT THEY ARE NOT TO PREACH IN A CONGREGATION OF MEN AND WOMEN. IN TITUS 2:2-5, APOSTLE PAUL ADMONISHED THE OLDER WOMEN TO TEACH THE YOUNG WOMEN THE WAY TO LIVE A HEALTHY FAMILY LIVE. A WOMAN CAN BECOME ANYTHING IN THE WORLD. SHE CAN RISE TO THE POSITION OF PRESIDENT OF A COUNTRY. BUT PREACHING WORK IS EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE MEN. THEY ARE TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR HUSBAND AND CHILDREN AT HOME. THEY ARE TO HELP IN BUILDING A STRONG FAMILY. OUR GOD IS A GOD OF ORDER. IF WOMEN ARE ALLOWED TO PREACH JUST LIKE THE MEN, WHO WILL TAKE CARE OF THE HOME? FOR ANYONE WHO HAVE DOUBT CONCERNING THIS ISSUE, SUCH SHOULD PLEASE VERSE 34 WHERE APOSTLE WARNED THAT IF ANY MAN THINK HIMSELF TO BE A PROPHET, HE SHOULD KNOW THAT WHAT HE IS SAYING ARE NOT HIS WORDS BUT THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD. WE SHOULD RATHER OBEY GOD THAN FOLLOW OUR OWN INSTINCT.
  • Clark
Your sons and your daughters shall prophecy, Acts ch2 Peter refering back to Joel ch2. Chap. 14 Corinthians starts out with new birth,.. a prayer language, then to preaching, then to tongues and interpretation, the the identity of prophets, then church biz. Then forbid not tongues, then a orderly fashion, then acknowledgment ... so women can parti icipate in spiritual events just not church biz.
  • Thank you! I appreciate m ike's comment as well as Zablon's word that "God's Word is settled". As for me, I will be glad to keep silent, knowing that in this way I am submitting and obeying God and the pastor as well as honoring the order of worship and, in my own quiet way, pleasing the Lord. I needed this. God bless you for speaking the truth in love.
  • _Rosalina_Sayson_Ko_Tapay_
Let us FOLLOW the COMMANDMENT of our Lord Jesus Christ saying, "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth" (1-Timothy 3:15). "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen" (Matthew 28:19-20). MEANING: If the apostles taught us saying, "Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church" (1-Corinthians 14:34-35), THEN we must OBEY it WITHOUT QUESTIONING.
  • Inez
Let us view this chapter within the context of cultural practices.....What was the Jewish customs of the day....what was the real issue why Paul had to say the women should keep silent....Remember Paul was really focusing on getting the word across to people clearly and with minimal disturbances...I've heard that with men and women seated separately and the focus was on men....the wives use to look to their husband for clarity of the teachings on spot and the cross talk was rather disturbing and limiting hence the rule.....
  • Rosalinasaysonkotapay
If ever men in a church are starting to step down from preaching then God shall choose a man among them to ordain him to preach in that church because it is His will that the fruit in that church should remain (John 15:16) and with God nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37) just as how Saul was told as His chosen vessel to bear His name (Acts 9:15).
  • Rosalinasaysonkotapay
1-Corinthians 14:34-36 is ABSOLUTE, regarding how women SHOULD BEHAVE themselves in the CHURCH: "to KEEP SILENCE, is NOT PERMITTED to speak, COMMANDED to be in UNDER OBEDIENCE, it's a SHAME TO SPEAK in the CHURCH"...There's NO EXCEPTION to the rule that has been mentioned in these verses...
  • Bill joyce for verse 35
Women can preach in churches. i mean if men are starting to step down then who is there to fill their shoes?
  • Ron Booth for verse 34
I believe that the fact that 1st Corinthians 14:33 states that "God is not the author of confusion" may shed some light. I also believe Proverbs 4:7 which states "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding." Therefore, I will seek more understanding of how God would have me interpret this verse.
  • Linda for verse 39
I don't understand it. It right or not to speak in tongues. I thought it was right but the way I am seeing this verse, it says it's not right to speak in tongues. What are they saying? Is there a difference between speaking with and/or in tongues? I am confused now. Please help as I am learning the Bible and want to know what I am learning is the truth. Thank you.
  • Jonathan for verse 15
Paul speaks of understanding.... this is to me the core ... If as a Christian I sing in the spirit... the unsaved will be sure that I am nuts....
  • Ronald l. collins for verse 38
many beliefs it is said are good for living but not good for dying.there is one path to heaven. john 14:6. jesus made it clear in luke 17:22-37. look around we see the effects of the words of the book of jude. there is only one preal of great price and few be that fine it.there is only one place to hide behind a bloodly cross. romans3:23, 5:12 6:23 10:3,9,10,11,13.
  • Ronald l. collins for verse 38
salavation in jesus christ alone. in other words salvation bygrace plus nothing else the thief on the cross is the greatest examble of salavtion. no time for good works, baptism, giving money to good causes, speaking in tonges, confrimed,no person can do any thing but exceptGod's gift, becauseif you add any thing to his gift it nufflied and furstrate the grace of God.jesus time of death on the cross had nothing to do with the thief needing to be baptisted. there has always been only one way to heaven.romans ch.4 ephch.2:8,9 titus ch.3:5,6,7.titus 2:11-15.galatians3:17-18.gal.ch 1:6-12. gal 2:16.gal3:6-9. the thief on the cross the greatest death bed converison of all time.gal3:1-5. my dad heard this message in early 50's on small zenith tv which my preious mother turned on every time this great lover of the gospel preached billy graham. and one sunday he didn't just drop us off he stayed and soon when forward and acceped jesus christ as his own personal saviour. because he already knew what the real purpose of going to church was, because of the hearing of the gospel on that little zenith tv.rlc God bless all those who hear this testimony. • PHYLLIS for verse 34
the word, the woman is to talk to her husband in silence at home and the husband is to confront the issue in a Godly manner for settlement. The woman are not to cause disruption and judgement over the man in the church. That is why God chose 7 MEN to become decans in the church. 12 descisples were ALL men. No women. GOD IS NOT the
  • Denise for verse 39
There are 2 different uses of tongues. One is a prayer language and the other is a gift that should have interpretation to follow if done in the church Ephesians 14:2, 4. Verse 18, Paul says, "I thank God, I speak with tongues more than ye all." Tongues were for a sign of receiving the Holy Ghost. It has NEVER been done away with. If this is the belief, then where is "That which is perfect"? Ephesians 13:9 clearly says, "For now we know in PART and we prophecy in PART, But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away". I personally know that I do not know God as I am known by Him...yet! That which is perfect, is The perfect love that we must have for all Godís creation. We are still very divided in our beliefs and that tells me that which is "perfect" has certainly not come yet. I would suggest a word study on the word "perfect" in the King James Bible; of course, to find out what God means by perfect and perfection. We are NOT yet there and we have a long way to go.
  • Dorcas Ngwerume for verse 34
I believe in God's eyes, we are all the same and He can use a Man the same way as a woman.
  • Ayanda for verse 34
We would not have to die today if Adam did not listen to Eva then disobeyed God. The word can't be change and we need to live according to what is in the bible. Women are to be silent at the churches, that is true as it is written and we cannot change. I have attended the church where a woman was standing in front of the congregational and express the word of God as if its hers and I was worried thats I googled this verse today .
  • Rstinnett for verse 34
Many believe this to mean abolishment of women in all church activities. I believe that God made man head of household for his strength and wisdom; and with wisdom comes a sense of understanding. The right submissiveness and the right husband/wife will work together to achieve Godís overall effect.
