  • Ronnie for verse 37
We are all nothing. "Man, even at his best state ", ghandi, mother theresa, judges, lawyers, police officers, even the soldier who lays down his life for his brother in arms, "is altogether vanity, and less than nothing. Whatever goodness any creature possesses, it is only because of God 's mercy and grace to them. For in Him we live and move and breathe and we have our being. He is the Energizer and Sustainer of all powers and minds and wills and hearts and souls and spirits and bodily frames. For every good gift cometh down from the Father of Lights, with Whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning, for He maketh His sun to rise on the just, and the unjust, and causes His rain to fall upon the good and the evil.

I really love this chapter because it puts it very simply, for all is made very manifest in 2 verses. Prophecies shall fail, tongues cease, knowledge vanish. Faith, hope, and love will always endure in for all believers in this world through which they pilgrimmage as strangers and foreigners. But the greatest is love, because once glorified, faith shall become the possessor of Love, and hope the attainer of love. For they shall know, love incarnate, even as they are known, foreknown by the eternal love of God. Love of God.
  • Ronnie for verse 39
I believe tongues have ceased. But not only tongues, but that now all prophecies from man "fail " and all knowledge has "vanished away " because that which is perfect, "the Wprd of God " which God has "magnified above all His Name " and which endureth forever. Though heaven and earth, prophecies, tongues, and knowledge of sinful men, and corrupt minds, shall pass away. The Word is the fulness of prophecy, the final tongue, fulness of knowledge. For the law came by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ, the Word Who became flesh, and of His fulness have we all received. And grace for grace.
  • All i can say is God never changes .man makes void the word of God by his traditions
  • Nlbrown
Tongues are for the believer, prophecy is what convinces the unbeliever, that the speaker is a true messenger from God.
  • Sophia
But in Genesis 11 chapter 7 th verse --come let us go down and confuse their language---here God was also with Jesus and Holy spirit. Then why did he say those words? Even if men wanted to built a tower which can reach Heavens they can 't reach the real skies. Then how to understand all this?
  • M. Netshiavhela
God desires that we should have spiritual gifts at our desires. spiritual gifts have not ceased. interpretation of tongues can address the confussion of tongues. spiritual gifts should help and unite the church and not divide the church and seeks to glorify God.
  • Pst.Chivatsi. for verse 33
Our Living God is a God of peace and anything that courses confusion is from the devil.
  • Eyes of our Father
Keep His word pure. Keep life simple. Say what you mean, mean what you say and do good in communication. This is the application of this scripture.
  • It is revelations like this that God gives us firm foundations in understanding His true character through His unfailing Word. If you are facing something in life that appears to be confusing and decieving rebuke the devourer and call upon the living God who is waiting to reveal His plan of peace to you through the shed blood of His Son Jesus. Keep this revelation hid in your heart to comfort and protect in times of need. 2 Chronicles 15:2 The LORD is with you when you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you, but if you forsake Him, He will forsake you. 1 Thessalonians 5:24 The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.
  • MockingBird for verse 33
If there is confusion in any area of my life I need to get it straightened up and get right with God. Honesty and integrity goes a long way with God. Be honest with yourself : sometimes I have to recognize a thing as it truly is , which is sometimes hard to swallow !!!! I turn myself and change it and I will have the Peace of God that passes all understanding .
  • Katherine Ledbetter for verse 35
I believe it is a parallel verse to I Timothy 2 11,12. Eve made it impossible for God to entrust us women with ourselves. We are too emotional and easily swayed, and also can easily sway the emotions of others. The Bible is clear that we must "Study to shew thyself approved unto God,... " So, study and ask for wisdom, but realize with much wisdom comes grief Ecclesiastes 1 18 . God will hold you accountable for what you want to know.
  • Becky for verse 34
Women prophesier 's existed and are welcome to prophecy. Can it be that there are times when it is ok and times when it is not ok speak.Didn 't Jesus tell Mary to go and tell that he is risen? So there are times when it is acceptable. We should teach our children, we have our hands full enough and men should take the lead at church. So men get some more men into church.
  • Joni G
Amen, Nothing but the Truth! We are all redeemed by Christ as faithful saved believers but serve different functions. As a family has a dad and mom, the church family is set up in a similar fashion.
  • Nothing but the Truth for verse 34
Many times in recent yrs women friends of mind in the Lord have approached me to visit their churches which have women Pastors, and trust me, these women are so called Bible loving Christians who know the Word of God. I 've more than once been tempted to visit some of these churches, but something within me the Holy Spirit has held me back. For the simple reason that the LORD has said in several verses that women are not to have spiritual leadership over the flock! and personally I have no problem at all with obeying this command. For me political considerations should NEVER super impose themselves above the word of GOD, period! end of discussion! Amen.
  • Joni G
Jacob, two instances are listed in the New Testament where believers spoke in other languages the Day of Pentecost and Acts 10. The laying of of hands died out in the first century. We don 't have speaking in tongues, languages today. I agree. Isn 't it wonderful how the gospel is being spread in many languages and people can hear, believe and obey our Lord and Master, Jesus Christ, the only Begotten Son of God! Praise God! I also wanted to add that I believe verse 34 holds true today. Women should keep silent in the churches.
  • Jacob
Notice that these so called heavenly languages that people say they are speaking must be of the Devil considering that Paul was caught up to the third heaven and heard words UNSPEAKABLE WORDS,which it is NOT LAWFUL TO UTTERED. Rom 8 26 cannot be carasmatic tongues because they CANNOT COME FORTH FROM THE MOUTH. Bible tongues are languages ACTS 1 6 which are tongues. Tongues are languages not jibber jabber. There is not one command in the Bible for someone to speak in tongues to be saved.
  • Joni G
Jacob, see my comment on John 14. As in the great commission, which is part of the gospel, Jesus asks us to make disciples of all nations and He wanted them to believe and be baptized. Matthew 28 18 20. On the day of Pentecost when Holy Spirit filled apostles spoke in other languages from other countries the Holy Spirit gave them utterance for the foreign Jews , these people spoke the good news. The listeners were hearing, believing believing that we are saved by His death, resurrection , repenting, confessing Christ as Lord, then baptized, immersed by the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They were added to the church that day. Today in the 21st century, we still follow that plan. Jesus, the Word has given us the Way to Him. There is no new way. When He completed His mission on earth, it was done. The Holy Spirit can guide us into all truth. In Corinthians 15, followers were beginning to change the gospel from the way it was first delivered and Paul was warning against that.
  • Jacob
The Jewish nation began with Signs see Exodus 4vs 8,9,17,28,etc. They rejected their prophesied messiah and Jesus told them in Matt 16 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a SIGN Those seeking signs today like the carasmatics will be deceived 2 Thess 2 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and SIGNS and lying wonders. Wont they wonder after the beast when he makes the tongues LIKE AS OF FIRE in Acts 2 3 come down literally in Rev 13 13 And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh FIRE come down from heaven on the earth in the SIGHT of men, The carasmaticas will say, see were right, were right, and will be deceived!
  • Jacob
Finish the verse in Isa 28 11. yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. Vs 22 says tongues are for a sign. 1 Cor 1 22 says the JEWS require a sign. The gospel was to the Jew first Romans 1 16. So in Acts 2 the message Peter preached was to the Jew first, see verses 5,14,22,36. The Jews rejected the message as a Nation and God went to the Gentiles. Acts 2 is not the plan of salvation for today. The gospel is in 1 Cor 15 1 4 and no baptism mentioned.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson
Hello Nathan What this scripture is talking about is the utterance of tongues as the spirit of God gives. This is talking about the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost was prophesied in Isaiah 28 11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people . This happened on the day of Pentecost in Acts Chapter 2. Paul in verse 22 is making a clarification. If I can say it like this, when the unbeliever sees a person a believer who has been filled with the Holy Ghost this is a sign to them that they need it to. To give a better picture this is what happened on the day of Pentecost, Acts 2 38. The unbelievers standing around saw the believer s speaking in tongues as the spirit of God give utterance. They were all amazed and marveled at this sign. If you continue reading to validate that you must speak in tongues as the spirit of God give utterance, Paul further states in verse 39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues .
  • Blessed zablon
According to 1 corithian 14...let us speak of what the lord has inherinted in our tounges.
  • Nathan for verse 22
a little bit confusing in terms of understanding
  • Randy Brooks for verse 2
A great teaching keep up the good work and I pray God will richly bless you.

1Corinthians ch14 verse 34 35 Is this true to the culture of Apostle Paul or is this true to the will of God? Does a woman have the same Holy Spirit that was given to man?
  • Mzwanele
It is very obvious from the context of 1Corinthians 14 that the purpose of speaking in tongues or foreign languages is to communicate the gospel and thereby edify the church. If the listeners do not understand the spoken language they cannot be edified. Consequently, if there is no interpreter, the speaker is simply speaking into the air and the only ones present who know what is being said are God and himself. This is the clear meaning of the often misquoted verse 1Cor. 14 2 ...Verses 9, clearly the entire purpose of tongues is to cross language barriers and communicate the gospel. 1Corinthians is the only one in which Paul deals with the subject of tongues. The Corinthian church obviously had a specific, temporary problem because Paul 's 2nd letter to Corinth never even mentions tongues. The ancient city of Corinth was famous for its international seaports. Because the Corinthian church was melting pot of many different nationalities, its services often became chaotic and confusing. Evidently some of the members would pray, testify or preach in languages unknown to the others present. This is why Paul commanded that if they spoke in a tongue unknown to the majority, they should remain silent unless there was someone there to interpret or translate 1Cor. 14 28
  • Alan Ward for verse 34
The root of this verse, is the proper submission of a woman to man. 1Corinthians 11v3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man and the head of Christ is God. If a woman is properly submitted to God, she will be towards man. She wouldn 't want to interupt the spirit of God in a meeting by talking. She wouldn 't want presume to that she could teach in the congregation. If she were spiritual, she would know that it was Eve who was decieved in the begining. 1 Timothy 2v11 14 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not decieved, but the woman being decieved was in the transgression. Surely a spiritual woman would not want to lead a man or God 's Church into deception. In these days of the great falling away, many will be decieved, and if it were possible, even the vey elect. Matthew 24v24. Let us all stay under the provision and protection of God, through obedience to His word.
