    Charity is love in action.
  • Linda DeMars on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
Only saints can fulfill all these requirements, but I think asking for God's help and knowing we cannot be perfect but we can try to show love to others. If we can see God in each person and do what we can do for them, like we should do for God, then we are trying to fulfill what He requires of us ( Micah 6:8 OT). It is not that God needs us to do things for Him . He is well able to do all

I still cannot understand why when no longer a child you have to lock away the thoughts . childhood is an innocence that should remain with you forever.
  • Sylvester Hutton on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
Charity is not putting alms in a bowl and then have a clear conscience. Charity is a way of life and a recognition of your fellow man and your society.

Absolutely one of my favourite passages from the new testament. One can do nothing in this world without love. It is the beyond good works and any other human striving. Unconditional love. We had this passage read in the service at our wedding over 30 years ago.
  • Tammy on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
In the end it's about unconditional love, or at least that is what we should strive for.
  • Susan Bewley on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago

To understand 1Corinthians13 we must refer to 14 discussing which gift is the most important. In 13 all gifts are childish things that we use and understand 'in part' as children. But the unconditional love charity of the Father toward His Son that which is perfect is what we are nothing without even if we have the childish gifts. When that which is perfect Jesus Christ comes, that which is part all the childish gifts shall be done away. We will become like adults and have perfect charity as Our Father in Heaven for we will understand the darkness of the glass will clear and be like Christ and become sons of God.

  • Sheila👼 on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
I got that as a child you act like a child as God did and then as you grow up in the Lords word you mature and grow as God did and you become a loving and caring adult who cares about others and put out a lot of charity as you grow just as God did for us.
  • Robert on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
i think the main theme of this is knowledge of god as a baby and as we learn more and more we see clearly, and of course love is the greatest commandment. think of it, god spoke the universe in existance !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • J on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
Agape love can never be replaced with charity, especially when you can give charity , without love, that often happens ,than it means nothing.
  • Dougie the Biblical Minister on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
What happened to "love"??? Is this chapter no longer known as the Love Chapter? Has greed overthrown "Love" to instill one's mind with the thought that nothing is more important than to give, give, give, thus somewhere, someone in their greed, boast that the greatest of faith, hope and charity is charity? The Greek word "agape" is translated all other love except Chapter 13. When one replaces the word charity with love, the chapter makes more sense. When charity is used, it sounds as if the writer has their hand out to take, take, take. is a God of Love... NOT a God of Mammon and charity implies that those receiving charity places charity above all else, which will inevitably give them more wealth mammon . Be not swayed by the Master of Deception and know it is indeed Faith, Hope and Love, the greatest of which is Love. As we study verse 3, it is plainly revealed that profit is the goal, whereas charity profits those on the receiving end with more mammon. But Love profits with more love. God is Love. One cannot serve God and mammon Matthew 6:24 . Just as one stated that charity starts at home, Love also starts at home.
  • Praise on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
i was hoping someone will commend on the second part of the chapter dealing with the transformation of the believer that we are not perfect but we are working on it daily. Just as we daily look at ourself in the mirror and clean the imperfection of a peck of dirt or adjust our collars or our tie or even the sitting of maybe our shirt or dress to make it seat perfectly on us so we are daily adjusting our spiritual lives to seat perfectly with our Lord s standard
  • Blessed on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
charity starts at home teach not to envy teach not to be puffed up kindness and longsuffering longsuffering is to keep your hope even after patience is at the end of it 's rope. hope in JESUS is spiritual your have to let your spirituality rule even where your patience seem to be low. GAL.5:22 CHARITY-TAUGHT AT HOME IS EASY TO BE RECOGNIZED ANYWHERE
  • Rose on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
The purest description of love is to understand that God is love.
  • Mary Jean Jackson on 1 Corinthians 13:1 - 8 years ago
Love our children, tell them you love them! As well as all man kind!! Tell them from the most deepest part of your soul, that they are your world! we all are sinners in one form or fashion, for what ever reasons that you sinned, tell them how much you love them and how sorry that youyou are make no excuses for your sins but own up take responsibility for your own actions and hope and pray they may one day understand that if your sins were done out of love and protection but was possibly done incorrectly and that you were ignorance on your ways of the message that you were trying to give them. And just pray that they can somehow find a wayto understand that you at have sent the message of love incorrectly but you were trying so very hard to tell them they are and will always be your world and that you live for them always and forever!!
  • Jeffrey A Frey on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
I am thankful that god gave me love through Jesus Christ for without it I don 't know where I would be for I love Jesus with all my heart. He gives me strength to move in life. Without his Love I would not exsist

I enjoy reading the KJV online each day and the commentaries. I especially love answering the questions. However, I was disappointed when there was little to no comments on women preaching in church. I believed you failed to teach. It is like you chose to speak in tongue on this matter. No edification.
  • Jacob Yardley on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
This photo and scripture is just how I see my Father sees me now Thank you Lord Jesus for carrying us thus far 'my precious precious child it is when you sww only one set of footprints in the sand, it is then that I carried you " AMEN

The Necessity of love. First we must love God Then love our sisters and brothers . We can 't live the christian life without love for God and for one another. When we help others let it be from the heart , only God can reward you.
  • Luvuyo on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
It is good to know that I share in that Love, true love, not this earthly love that loves whn it is to gain something. For me this verse truly speaks of how God is to me.
  • Ovaina on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
i have always stated that in my life God said that Charity is the most important. That is why you have make sure that when you do things for peopl that you are doing it from the heart and not to show off for people because God will reward you in the open... I love this scripture
  • Jermaine on 1 Corinthians 13:1 - 8 years ago
but the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace forbearance kindness longsuffering goodness faithfulness gentleness self-control righteousness meekness temperance against such things there is no law let the one who has an ear hear what the spirit says to the congregations he that conquers will by no means be harmed by the second death happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection over these the second death has no authority but they will be priests of GOD and of the CHRIST and will rule as KINGS with HIM for the thousand years and Death and Hades were hurled into the lake of fire this means the second Death the lake of fire further more whoever was not found written in the BOOK OF LIFE was hurled into the LAKE OF FIRE BUT AS FOR THE COWARDS AND THOSE WITHOUT FAITH AND THOSE WHO ARE DISGUSTING IN THERE FILTH AND MURDERERS AND FORNICATORS AND THOSE PRACTICING SPIRITISM AND IDOLATERS AND ALL THE LIARS THEIR PORTION WILL BE IN THE LAKE THAT BURNS WITH SULPHUR THIS MEANS THE SECOND DEATH

My favorite chapter in the Bible. It is a daily motivation to me to live what it teaches! Secularism is not the answer. Christ is the Answer!
  • Patrick Betchik on 1 Corinthians 13 - 8 years ago
As I mentioned in 1 Phillipians for me to die is gain I just lost my wife and the dark glass verse came to me too. I was surprised that it is in the "love chapter ". I am struggling but I think he might be saying that we shall see God face to face and be in judgement not only for what we did but why. It also reminds me of some Islamic people I knew in the Navy they only asked 2 questions do you pray and do you practice charity with no thought of yourself. Perhaps we do share a common father...perhaps I need to look closer at Pat
