1 Corinthians Ch.13. In my country we call it the Chapter of Love. I believe it is the most important chapter in the whole epistles of Paul. It 's what God is. LOVE. It 's what John said in Chapter 3 verse 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Our belief is based on Love, the kind of Love Jesus has for us, so much that He took all our sins on Him to the cross. Paul is very clearly saying here that you can fulfill all the other things that our belief requires, but if you have no LOVE nothing counts.

If God is love and we are saved and filled with his holy spirit, shouldn 't we automatically have Charity? Yet, some Christians do not seem to to have charity. charity is love, patience, kind, willing to sacrifice one 's needs to help someone else. Like when the woman had only enough meal for her and her son, but because she had charity, it brought about faith and she gave her last food to the prophet of God even though she and her son might die...but was willing by

Lord as a Christian we have these character traits because of you, so help me to practice all of them, and especially charity. Also Lord I profess that I hear your voice only and mot that of a stranger. I have The mind of Christ. I am made The Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. Amen!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. He is the Perfect One.
  • Percilla coleman on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
The love spoken in this text comes through a life of commitment to Christ for only through being submissive to your duty and his will can you gain this love and allow it to shine forth in you
  • Redearth on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
The more I grow in the divine life I see that this love is no other than the divine life living in us being expressed through all the instances as mentioned in this chapter It is God being lived out in us when we are in constant contact with Him What a marvelous revelation
  • Terry on 1 Corinthians 13:10 - 10 years ago
To expand on Jeff s comment a little bit I would offer the following In this verse the noun is in the nominative case identifying the subject that which is perfect it is singular the only thing in view here perfect tense when it has come it will keep on being perfect active voice we will be benefitted by it subjunctive mood not yet completed but will be in time and it IS neuter gender must be some thing not a person The same grammatical construct is found in James 1 25 the completed canon of scripture the mind of Christ

  • Dominguin on 1 Corinthians 13:13 - 10 years ago
There is a difference in modern meaning between Charity and Love but reading 1611 KJV we can be flexible and go a bit further and accept the symbiosis Love fills in the empty spaces in our hearts Isn t this the purpose to read the Bible
  • Ethelware on 1 Corinthians 13:13 - 10 years ago
charity is giving to the poor and needed helping those that are in need Loving your neighbor as yourself give and God will give it back to you Youre reward are stored in heavenly places not only when we reach heaven God desire for the saints that we live in good health wealth the lender and not the borrow and our cup running over if we will do the will of the father and his will is that we love one another if we can only love and deny ourself then we can ask anything of the father and it shall be given unto us by faith
  • Augustin on 1 Corinthians 13:13 - 10 years ago

  • J Merriweather on 1 Corinthians 13:10 - 10 years ago
1Corinthians 13:10 are not talking about the completion of the new testament. When the Bible speaks about itself it says according to the scriptures' or it say the Word of God or Word. That which is perfect is when the Lord Jesus return to earth and set up his kingdom. And when he rule for ever and ever than that which is perfect will be here.
  • Joe on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
verse 10 explained,,,when the word of God was completed the gifts were done away with, They didn't need them anymore because we have the complete word of God. Faith, Hope and Charity now abide...
  • Shadreck ulaya on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
since God through his LOVE gave jesus his only begotten son to us, it seems to me that jesus is the expression of God's love towards man kind, thus love is the ultimate goal of christianity.
  • Tina on 1 Corinthians 13:1 - 10 years ago
I have heard it said that Jesus is love..and still some people didnt want to hear what He had to say, do to their interpretation of love. I have heard it said that Jesus looks at our hearts and that of our motive for our actions. Thats what He will judge us on and not our words...expressing how we love. As the scripture reads (If he spoke not only with the tongues of men, but even those of angels, it would be, without love, [as] sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. An empty sound) So...based on this I believe its a heart matter and God is the only one that can see into our hearts. We can remain bitter, hateful or what ever and try pass ourselves off to others as saved and sanctified...but GOD is not mocked!!! He knows the truth!! what is hidden in our dark hearts.
  • John Hodge on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
This chapter holds the "key" to life and living. It matters not Christians or none Christians. What ever we choose to do in life, if "Love" is not the center and foundation, the end thereof is "Failure"!Love is the greatest conqueror...it conquerors anything and everything both in heaven and on earth! Without "Love in our hearts for all-men, we cannot go where Jesus is!
  • Thy word is truth on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
The word charity, as found in the King James Bible, always expresses Christian love for other Christians. The word charity is never used in the King James Bible to express the love relationship between God and man, a husband and his wife, between parents and their children, or between the believer and the nonbeliever. It is always used in reference to the love Christians should have for other Christians.

Simply look up the word "charity" in Strong's concordance and take notice of every time the King James Bible uses the word "charity". It is ALWAYS in the context of Christian love in action towards other Christians.

"We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and THE CHARITY of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth." 2 Thessalonians 1:3

"And above all things have fervent CHARITY among yourselves: for CHARITY shall cover a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8
  • Hudgeson on 1 Corinthians 13:4 - 10 years ago
Love brings unity, peace and solidarity,so love is important to anyone either to a believer or non believer.
  • E. A. Taylor on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
Just a quick comment to Eileen Struss's comment regarding vs. 8 The verse does not say that Knowledge will cease. It says that it will vanish. And prophecies fail... not cease. Only tongues will cease. These three verbs are different things.

Matthew 7:22-23 says:Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
    23. And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

People do you see just how important it is to choose to Love rather than to hate; Forgive rather than to hold a grudge; You can see from Matthew 7:22-23 that even the church, who actually have the power & gifts of God will be cast into Hell, and this chapter shows why. So we see that you can be anointed and still be in danger off hell fire, or rather still not have a relationship with God because your heart never learned how to truly Love. So I say to everyone; match this chapter up to you. Your salvation depends on it. For the Saints: this chapter shows us that we only have part of God, and Matthew 7:22-23 shows us that part of God is not good enough.
  • Keith on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
this chapter is a love chapter cause love is what the lord Jesus thought us from the beginning to the end. when we see Jesus we'll know in full, as of now we see only in part.
  • LIVINGSTONE on 1 Corinthians 13 - 10 years ago
the chapter is rich with details and facts to guide us especially young believers who are struggling to understand the concept of love and whom might be trapped in contraversial world of relationships.
    'thanks to the saint PETER'

Thank you all for the review and insight of this beatifull text.
  • Eileen Struss on 1 Corinthians 13:8 - 10 years ago
Deniers of present day tongues use this verse to say tongues have ceased. The same sentence says knowledge and prophecies shall vanish.
If knowledge and prophecies are still here why must tongues have ceased.
  • Nathan Osiemo on 1 Corinthians 13:13 - 10 years ago
Hope is for things not seen, when they are seen no need of hope,we hope to be in heaven but we have not reached hence we hope for it.Faith is a substance of things hoped for, evidence of things not seen.We have not seen heaven,by faith we hope it is meant for us but when we reach there, no need of both hope and faith.Love or charity are not only for his life but because God is Love Love will continue in heaven because of His presence. Therefore Charity ,hope and faith are vehicles to lead us to our promised land but only LOVE will cross to eternity.
