Wesley's Notes for 1 Corinthians 6:19

6:19 And even your body is not, strictly speaking, your own even this is the temple of the Holy Ghost - Dedicated to him, and inhabited by him. What the apostle calls elsewhere the temple of God, #1Cor 3:16|,17, and the temple of the living God, #2Cor 6:16|, he here styles the temple of the Holy Ghost; plainly showing that the Holy Ghost is the living God.

People's Bible Notes for 1 Corinthians 6:19

1Co 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. This makes clear how terrible is the sin of defiling the body by licentiousness. It is desecrating God's temple. As the Shekinah dwelt in the temple of Israel, so the Holy Spirit in Christ's temple, which we are. Ye are not your own. But members of Christ, and hence have not the right to use our bodies to our own pleasure.

Thank God for the Holy Spirit that is in us when we are Saved .
  • Mockingbird for verse 19
Totally Amazing that Precious Holy Spirit of the living God lives on the inside of me. I do not belong to me any more and I am not allowed to do what I want to do : For I must give an account to God of all I do. Why would I subject Holy Spirit dwelling on inside of me to the filth of the fleshly desires ?
  • Solomon for verse 19
Apostle Paul seems to be dealing with the problem of ignorance in the church of the corinthians...Hence, 'Know ye not ' Ignorance they say is a disease...Paul wants them to have the understanding that as christians, they shouldn 't continue in immorality because their body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
  • Chikekm Ekenna N for verse 19
Be happy my brothers and sisters. It is a great thing that the spirit of God is in you. Thank u jesus.
  • Amen to this verse! Thinking further about the phrase... Be ye not drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit. Since our bodies are the temple of the H.S., this matter must be filled with what it is intended or else it will be defiled.
  • I love this scripture, as I do all scripture. Our living, and loving God puts so much into perspective with every word He speaks to us. Truly, think of what He is saying about identity here, about the intimacy of relationship, the connection we share with Him, knowing we are one with Him, through the Holy Spirit, baptised into Christ, speaking as a Father to His children, encouraging them and instructing them into what is right, and what is true.

    Yea, and amen.
