Testimony: First Generation University Student

Stephanie's testimony "First Generation University Student" on 7/20/2015, 5:42pm...

I am writing this today since my testimony about God's awesome work has been long overdue. I'm from the lovely island of Trinidad and Tobago that came to the United States four years ago to pursue a geology degree. 90% of my family members did not support my decision to pursue my education. At the time, my mom was the only one supporting me since my dad randomly decided one day not to support my education financially.
I applied to scholarships and government aids in Trinidad, but because of the change in government (racist) at the time, all my applications were discarded. This all happened in 2010. So after a year, I was finally able to start university in 2011 since my dad had a change of heart.
It was very difficult for me my first year of school since I had no family close to me. I went through a stage of depression for a year and a half where I would cry myself to sleep and have thoughts of giving up on this wonderful opportunity. The only way I was able to fall asleep was saying the rosary. Throughout the four years, it's been a financial roller coaster paying for school. My parents had to sacrifice a lot for me so I decided to get a part time job to help support myself. Every year through some miracle we were able to pay tuition.
I am about to graduate this August and I would like to thank God for always making a way for me and my family where it seemed impossible. Thank you Lord for providing everything I needed even when my faith was diminishing. I thank the Lord also for such wonderful parents and also giving me the strength to forgive my father. I would like to thank God for the job and apartment he is about to provide for me soon. Through all this I know that I need to live my life the way God intended.
I just want to say that God is a miracle working God and anything is possible through Christ. I am very grateful and happy and excited that God has taken and protected me through my four years in school. I've made it! Thank you Lord!
