But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers ofthecity, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
And they went up on the breadth ofthe earth, and compassed the camp ofthe saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.
And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity ofthecity.
And when they were gone out ofthecity, and not yet far off, Joseph said unto his steward, Up, follow after the men; and when thou dost overtake them, say unto them, Wherefore have ye rewarded evil for good?
And if it be not redeemed within the space of a full year, then the house that is in the walled city shall be established for ever to him that bought it throughout his generations: it shall not go out in the jubile.
And they burnt thecity with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury ofthe house ofthe LORD.
And Gaal the son of Ebed went out, and stood in the entering ofthe gate ofthecity: and Abimelech rose up, and the people that were with him, from lying in wait.
And the man departed out ofthecity from Bethlehemjudah to sojourn where he could find a place: and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he journeyed.
And as they were going down to the end ofthecity, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God.
If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leaveof me that he might run to Bethlehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.
Then he said, What title is that that I see? And the men ofthecity told him, It isthe sepulchre ofthe man of God, which came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that thou hast done against the altar of Bethel.
And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there.
Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech unto the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to trouble them; that they might take thecity.
Be it known unto the king, that the Jews which came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have set up the walls thereof, and joined the foundations.
For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand ofthe king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
Then spake the priests and the prophets unto the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he hath prophesied against this city, as ye have heard with your ears.
Know that thus saith the LORD ofthe king that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwelleth in this city, andof your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity;
For though ye had smitten the whole army ofthe Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is like to die for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in thecity.
How doth thecity sit solitary, that was full of people! how is she become as a widow! she that was great among the nations, and princess among the provinces, how is she become tributary!
He cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over thecity to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.
Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, Thecity sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to defile herself.
