Wesley's Notes for Romans 12:19

12:19 Dearly beloved - So he softens the rugged spirit. Revenge not yourselves, but leave that to God. Perhaps it might more properly be rendered, leave room for wrath; that is, the wrath of God, to whom vengeance properly belongs. #Deut 32:35|

People's Bible Notes for Romans 12:19

Ro 12:19 Beloved, avenge not yourselves. If we are injured, we are to leave the matter in the hands of God and give place unto wrath. He sees and resents the injuries of his children. For it is written. See De 32:35. Vengeance [is] mine . . . saith the Lord. The Lord claims it as his prerogative to avenge what needs to be avenged. When we do it, we trample on the divine rights.

Discussion for Romans 12

How perfectly letting patience have her perfect work, as the perfection of working in the fields yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness by doing good cheerfully is in fact presentation to both man and to God a living sacrifice of one another
  • Donnie
The meaning behind offering our bodies as a living sacrifice is pertaining to our Christian walk and service to God. Jesus is the perfect example and since he offered up the perfect sacrifice for our sins and forgiveness of sins it is now possible for us to walk after the spirit and not obey the lust of the flesh... We should offer our bodies as instruments of service unto the Lord.

Rom. 12:1 - :.....that you present your bodies a living sacrifice ....."; does anyone know how we are to do this? Our bodies are our bodies; how can they be a sacrifice?
  • BSP
This verse can be hard to follow because we are not inclined to bless those who persecute us. However, by doing so we imitate Jesus Christ.
