CHAP. XV.
3 Christ reprooueth the Scribes, and Pharisees, for transgressing Gods Commaundements through their owne traditions: 11 teacheth how that which goeth into the mouth, doeth not defile a man. 21 He healeth the daughter of the woman of Canaan, 30 and other great multitudes: 32 and with seuen loaues and a few little fishes feedeth foure thousand men, beside women and children.
1 Then came to Iesus Scribes and Pharisees, which were of Hierusalem, saying,1
4 For God commaunded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: And hee that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.4
5 But yee say, Whosoeuer shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift by whatsoeuer thou mightest bee profited by me,5
7 Yee hypocrites, well did Esaias prophecie of you, saying,
8 This people draweth nigh vnto mee with their mouth, and honoureth mee with their lips: but their heart is farre from me.8
9 But in vaine they do worship me, teaching for doctrines, the commandements of men.
10 ¶ And he called the multitude, and said vnto them, Heare and vnderstand.10
13 But he answered and said, Euery plant which my heauenly father hath not planted, shalbe rooted vp.13
14 Let them alone: they be blinde leaders of the blinde. And if the blinde lead the blinde, both shall fall into the ditch.14
15 Then answered Peter, and said vnto him, Declare vnto vs this parable.15
16 And Iesus said, Are yee also yet without vnderstanding?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth, come forth from the heart, and they defile the man.
19 For out of the heart proceed euill thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witnes, blasphemies.19
20 These are the things which defile a man: But to eate with vnwashen hands, defileth not a man.
21 ¶ Then Iesus went thence, and departed into the coastes of Tyre and Sidon.21
24 But he answered, and said, I am not sent, but vnto the lost sheepe of the house of Israel.24
25 Then came she, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, helpe me.
26 But he answered, and said, It is not meete to take the childrens bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Trueth Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crummes which fall from their masters table.
29 And Iesus departed frō thence, and came nigh vnto the sea of Galile, and went vp into a mountaine, and sate downe there.29
30 And great multitudes came vnto him, hauing with them those that were lame, blinde, dumbe, maimed, and many others, and cast them downe at Iesus feet, and he healed them:30
32 ¶ Then Iesus called his disciples vnto him, and said, I haue compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three dayes, and haue nothing to eate: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.32
34 And Iesus saith vnto them, How many loaues haue yee? And they said, Seuen, and a few little fishes.
35 And hee commaunded the multitude to sit downe on the ground.
38 And they that did eat, were foure thousand men, beside women and children.
39 And he sent away the multitude, and tooke ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.

15:1 #Mark 7:1|.
15:2 The elders - The chief doctors or, teachers among the Jews.
15:3 They wash not their hands when they eat bread - Food in general is termed bread in Hebrew; so that to eat bread is the same as to make a meal.
15:4 Honour thy father and mother - Which implies all such relief as they stand in need of. #Exod 20:12|; 21:17.
15:5 It is a gift by whatsoever thou mightest have been profited by me - That is, I have given, or at least, purpose to give to the treasury of the temple, what you might otherwise have had from me.
15:7 Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying - That is, the description which Isaiah gave of your fathers, is exactly applicable to you. The words therefore which were a description of them, are a prophecy with regard to you.
15:8 Their heart is far from me - And without this all outward worship is mere mockery of God. #Isaiah 29:13|.
15:9 Teaching the commandments of men - As equal with, nay, superior to, those of God. What can be a more heinous sin?
15:13 Every plant - That is, every doctrine.
15:14 Let them alone - If they are indeed blind leaders of the blind; let them alone: concern not yourselves about them: a plain direction how to behave with regard to all such. #Luke 6:39|.
15:17 Are ye also yet without understanding - How fair and candid are the sacred historians? Never concealing or excusing their own blemishes.
15:19 First evil thoughts - then murders - and the rest. Railings - The Greek word includes all reviling, backbiting, and evil speaking.

15:22 A woman of Canaan - Canaan was also called Syrophenicia, as lying between Syria properly so called, and Phenicia, by the sea side. Cried to him - From afar, Thou Son of David - So she had some knowledge of the promised Messiah.
15:23 He answered her not a word - He sometimes tries our faith in like manner.
15:24 I am not sent - Not primarily; not yet.
15:25 Then came she - Into the house where he now was.
15:28 Thy faith - Thy reliance on the power and goodness of God.
15:29 The sea of Galilee - The Jews gave the name of seas to all large lakes. This was a hundred furlongs long, and forty broad. It was called also, the sea of Tiberias. It lay on the borders of Galilee, and the city of Tiberias stood on its western shore. It was likewise styled the lake of Gennesareth: perhaps a corruption of Cinnereth, the name by which it was anciently called, #Num 34:11|. #Mark 7:31|.
15:32 They continue with me now three days - It was now the third day since they came. #Mark 8:1|.
15:36 He gave thanks, or blessed the food - That is, he praised God for it, and prayed for a blessing upon it.
