To insight777 - do you know, Jesus created 'reverse psycology'. The 2 blind men did exactly what he wanted. the reason He didn't say, "Tell everybody you see"- he knew it'd be presumptuous on His part. It'd be boasting. I'm not judging you; please believe that. It's hard to get attitudes across in this way; speaking face to face is so much better.

Verse 27, the 2 blind men were religious as they recognized Jesus as the son of David. Their religion accepted Jesus but not as the son of God. They were blind because they could not see Jesus as the Messiah. They could not see that Jesus could save their souls. They saw Jesus as a prophet only, a son of David nothing more than that.

Understand from verse 31 that the 2 blind men were not true followers of Jesus as they rejected what he asked of them and disobeyed his commandment directed at them. If one loves Jesus, one will follow exactly what he says to do. These men did not. These men were shown the truth of the teachings of Jesus so their eyes were opened but they rejected what Jesus told them to do. Fame is not faith. They spread abroad the knowledge of the power of Jesus but did not choose that knowledge for themselves. They turned against Jesus when they disobeyed his word, his request. They acted on their prior faith before they were shown what was right, they never let go of their prior faith. The 2 men did not convert and treat Jesus as their redeemer, the Messiah that they should have followed obediently.

Verses 16, the religion, symbolized as a garment, that needs to be fulfilled, symbolized as the missing piece-the tear or rent, is the religion of Israel. Jesus brought a new religion, Christianity. Jesus changed the religious laws and fulfilled the promise of salvation and everlasting life. Jesus filled the missing piece of their garment which is the Messiah. Since they rejected Jesus that piece is still missing to them. Israel rejected Jesus so the rent or missing piece of their religion was made worse as they sinned even more by killing Christ their redeemer. Jesus took from their garment, their religious laws, and said some were no longer to be followed. One can not be both, fully accepting 2 religions that are in conflict with each other. One must choose which is the right teaching. If one religion says a law has to be followed and another religion says it does not have to be followed, then one must choose which is correct. So a new garment, meaning religion, was created, which is Christianity. The teaching of Jesus is the new wine that fills the new bottle, symbolically here the new church or gathering place.
