Wesley's Notes for Matthew 6:22

6:22 The eye is the lamp of the body - And what the eye is to the body, the intention is to the soul. We may observe with what exact propriety our Lord places purity of intention between worldly desires and worldly cares, either of which directly tend to destroy. If thine eye be single - Singly fixed on God and heaven, thy whole soul will be full of holiness and happiness. If thine eye be evil - Not single, aiming at any thing else.

People's Bible Notes for Matthew 6:22

Mt 6:22,23 The light of the body is the eye. This is not an abrupt transition, but bears on the same subject. If one's eye is diseased, all he sees is wrong. So the mind, or conscience, is the light of the soul. If these be darkened, all is darkness; if these see aright, all is light.

Matthew 6 vs. 33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all this things shall be added unto you". If God could feed the birds of the air, how much more we humans that He created in His own image. Serving God with all we have and putting him first and everything shall be added unto us.

Matthew 6:24 "No man can serve two masters, you will hate one and love the other" If worldly things are put first, and Jesus second, you don't understand this chapter. Turn away from idols.

The lord is great , if only people know that Jesus is the first they would not run after the things of the world because he has said " seek the kingdom of God first and every other things shall be added" but now a days people make things of the world first and Jesus the second option. May the lord forgive us all.

If your eye is single your whole body will be full of light but if your be evil your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore your light is darkness how great is that darkness. Take a little time and think about it It is a game changer if we are serious about our lives in Christ There are certain evils that we dare not participate in to keep our light light.matt 6v22

I like this, the Lord tells us about being materialistic and seeking attention. He is warning us, rebuking us, and trying to make is easier for us. He was telling us not to worry too much about things in this life so we can live the life he brought.
