People's Bible Notes for Matthew 15:4

Mt 15:4 For God commanded. See Ex 21:17. He that curseth, etc. The Ten Commandments promised long life to those who honored father and mother (Ex 20:12 De 5:16). Here the Lord quotes the punishment of dishonoring them. (See also Le 20:9.) On nothing did Moses insist more than respect for parents.

The woman was from canaan therefore she was not of the children of Israel therefore in their day they would have referred to a foreigner in that way. The woman showed great faith so Jesus accepted her into the fold. The Pharisees tried to pervert the Word of God instead of obeying and accepting It. They tried to make the Word more acceptable by changing the meaning. Jesus rejected their religion

Jesus referred to dogs because dogs faithfully follow their master regardless of what their master thinks. Some masters take advantage of dogs loyalty, these dog fighters beat the dogs until they learn to fight, to death so that they can turn a profit from the fight. Jesus knew that the woman asking for help was not his follower, her beliefs were not what Jesus taught yet she converted to truth.

Jo Ann, talk to the Holy Ghost and ask for clarity of scriptures. We are told to do so. And He will show you the word. He will not put you down for your lack of understanding but will lift you up. He is our Comforter.

i think i can help! try this::So you have made the word of God invalid because of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about you when he said: 8 ˜This people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far removed from me. 9 It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, for they teach commands of men as doctrines.
