Discussion for Luke 1

  • Matt
Elizabeth and Mary were cousins, meaning their mothers were sisters (and daughters/ descendants of Aaron). Zacharias was a Levitical priest. Mary's father, Heli, was of Judah: a Judahite. Our Lord, Jesus Christ, is of the tribe of Levi and Judah: Lord of Lords (Priest Line/ Levi) and King of Kings (King Line/ Judah).

In verses 6 and 7 Elizabeth was barren, but this doesn't mean she didn't have God's favor because in verse 6 she is described as righteous. Unfortunate circumstances happen to good people sometimes.

Luke has a remarkable way of telling us the many ways that our God can do amazing and miraculous things. Our faith can only strengthen when we believe in Him.
