Wesley's Notes for Joshua 1:2

1:2 Now therefore arise - Let not the withering of the most useful hands be the weakening of ours. When God has work to do, he will either find or make instruments fit to carry it on. Moses the servant is dead; but God the master is not: he lives forever. This Jordan - Which is now near thee, which is the only obstacle in thy way to Canaan. Which I give - That is, am now about to give thee actual possession of it, as I formerly gave a right to it by promise.

Discussion for Joshua 1

To 'Malefu' on Joshua 1:8 -- And to think - they (or rather parents) were 'here' 40 yrs. ago, but only Joshua and Caleb had FAITH in God. And it was only 11 days journey from Mt. Horeb (Sinai) to the land of Canaan. Arrrrrrrrrrrg!!! They saw all the blessings of the Red Sea and Pharoah. I believe it wholeheartedly, but I'll never understand it.

The "book of the law", vs. 8, was handwritten by Moses as instructed by God after God gave him the Ten Commandments. It contained extra counsel and instructions that the Israelites needed, based upon the Ten Commandments. This book was not the Ten Commandments and was kept in the side of the Ark of the Covenant.

THIS was the law that was nailed to the cross, not the Ten Commandments.
