Wesley's Notes for Joshua 1:14

1:14 Before their brethren - In the front of all of them; which was but reasonable; because they had the advantage of their brethren, having actually received their portion, which their brethren had only in hope, because they were freed from those impediments which the rest were exposed to, their wives, and children, and estates being safely lodged; and to prevent their withdrawing themselves from the present service, which they otherwise would have had temptation to do, because of the nearness of their habitations. Armed - For by this time they were well furnished with arms, which they had either from the Egyptians, Amalekites, or Amorites, from whom they had taken them; or by purchase from those people by whose borders they passed. Men of valour - All such were obliged to go over if occasion required it, but Joshua took only some of them, because they were sufficient for his purpose, and because some were fit to be left, both to secure their own wives, children, and possessions, and to prevent their enemies on that side from giving them disturbance in their enterprise upon Canaan.

My dad's name was Joshua. He was an amazing man. I read this book each time I think of him. It gives me some kind of Joy and peace. I am probably going to name my son Joshua too.

I particularly love Chapter 1 verse 3. I have great confidence because of that promise. There is power is that word.

Joshua was called of GOD and he answered the call as we all should do!We were all chosen for a certain calling and we should answer it as well as Joshua did. GOD gave it to them, they just needed to go claim it all!But like all people they failed to go claim it all!To this day!GOD gave us his grace for free!! We just need to go claim our Inheritance freely gave at the Cross!!!BLOOD does it all

I was a young woman of of 17 when I read the book of Joshua. As I read of this leader/trogon, he reminder me of my grandfather. I told him if I had a son I would name him- first name Joshua and second name after him because I could see Joshua in my grandfather, who's name was Slavone (French). Thus, Joshua Slavone. Family tells me he is so much like him. He was an officer and now a lawyer.
