Wesley's Notes for John 8:44

8:44 He was a murderer - In inclination, from the beginning - Of his becoming a devil; and abode not in the truth - Commencing murderer and liar at the same time. And certainly he was a killer of men (as the Greek word properly signifies) from the beginning of the world: for from the very creation he designed and contrived the ruin of men. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own - For he is the proper parent, and, as it were, creator of it. See the origin not only of lies, but of evil in general!

People's Bible Notes for John 8:44

Joh 8:44 Ye are of [your] father, the devil. There are two households: that of God, composed of his children; and that of the devil, composed of his children. All who hear the voice of Christ become God's children by adoption (Ro 8:15-17), and all who refuse to hear him, do so because they belong to the devil's household and hear his voice. They "will do the lusts of their father". He was a murderer from the beginning. He caused the first murder, moves those who do murder, and those who seek to kill Christ are of his spirit.

Chapter 8:34 says 'whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. Romans 6:17 says we WERE the servants of sin. Verse 20 also that we 'were' servants of sin. Who are those people (we) who are not sinners anymore?

Powerful teaching...Jesus sad to this Jews vs 37"I know that ye are Abraham's seed;but ye seek to kill me,because my word hath no place in you." in other word you have no relationship with me, you know nothing. Jesus is the truth and wants you abide in Him you will know the truth.

Maybe he is speaking to the people mentioned in verse 2.

They all left, meaning the accusers. but there were others in attendance watching this play out who would have heard Jesus's words and recorded them.

read vs 2 . Jesus was teaching, the scribes and Pharisees came and brought the accused. when there consciences were convicted by Jesus, they ( the accusers left) jesus saw no man ( no accuser). His audience was still present.

3 to12, does not line up.(Please read) the scribes and the pharisees brought to Jesus an adulterous woman, 4 to 6 stat what happen, verse 7 Jesus reply. Verse 9 said everyone left, one by one, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing in the midst, verse 10/11 said Jesus saw none but the woman, and told her to go and sin no more. So if they all left, who was Jesus talking to in verse 12?
