Wesley's Notes for John 14:12

14:12 Greater works than these shall he do - So one apostle wrought miracles merely by his shadow, #Acts 5:15|; another by handkerchiefs carried from his body, #Acts 19:12|; and all spake with various tongues. But the converting one sinner is a greater work than all these. Because I go to my Father - To send you the Holy Ghost.

People's Bible Notes for John 14:12

Joh 14:12 Greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. Those who believe shall have power given to do works, in some respects greater; not greater miracles, but to effect greater moral and spiritual revolutions. At the time of his death, as far as we know, he had only about five hundred disciples (1Co 15:6), but he "went to his Father" and "shed forth the things seen and heard" on Pentecost (Ac 2:33), and the eleven apostles converted three thousand in a single day (Ac 2:41).

Among what he did is the endurerance of the agony and the suffering on the cross. Even if your Shadow is raising the died and endurance and perseverance is not there(in you) ,then you've not done the ''greater works''.

I think Jesus meant everything he did. Not just what he preached. Because he said greater works that he did (not say). The works of Jesus isn't just his messages but includes everything he did on earth (his messages, his lifestyle, his signs and wonders, his miracles, etc)

I stand to be corrected. Thanks.

In my humble opinion the greater works "we" will do that Yeshua is talking about is when "we" the true house of Israel reunite as one. Since Yeshua walked this earth Christian have forgot the 7 feasts to the Lord and the 7th day Sabbath while the Jews have denied the Yeshua/Jesus the Messiah. There will come a day when these 2 house's reunite. When Christian will observe the feast and the Jews will accept Jesus. This is the story of the prodigal son. These are the greater works we will do. This is the next and last reformation before His return and it is happening now. Come be part of it in Yeshua's name I pray.

I believe that Jesus is reminding believers of the potential for greater works either in the Apostolic realm or day-to-day working environment.

Patrick's comment on 2012-09-25 22:26:42:

I believe these were words that Jesus Christ spoke. He said We need to put our Faith in HIM. The Book of Hebrews explains the meaning of Faith. It is the substance of thing hoped and the evidence of things not seen. Jesus taught us how we need to live, by faith, not by sight. Walking on water doesn't make sense, but Jesus did it and one of his apostles also got out of the boat he was in and walked a little, until he focused on waves in the water instead of focusing on the power of God working in His son Jesus Christ. If we are to do Godís work, we need to have faith in Jesus Christ (His son) who came to earth to teach us how we should live. If have any hope of a life and a more abundant one, we need to search throughout the Bible and learn what God has to teach us. The Bible says if we have faith in Jesus Christ and believe speaking with our mouths, He is the son of God. He was crucified and rose again and ascended to heaven paying the price for our sins; even though we die in the physical, we have eternal life in heaven. So let us put our faith in God and His son Jesus Christ. Let our work be great also...
