40:22 Sitteth - Far above this round earth, even in the highest heavens; from whence he looketh down upon the earth, where men appear to him like grasshoppers. As here we have the circle of the earth, so elsewhere we read of the circle of heaven, #Job 22:14|, and of the circle of the deep, or sea, #Prov 8:27|, because the form of the heaven, and earth and sea is circular. Spreadeth - For the benefit of the earth and of mankind, that all parts might partake of its comfortable influences.

If the Earth is spherical So why the church refuse this Idea... and fight to prove that the Earth is Flat --- Galileo also was damned when we claimed that the Earth is spherical ... so Circle is not a sphere ... thanx

@jeff:
The early church backed up what was popular and would give the most power a lot of the times. Why do you think that Martin Luther was so outraged that he nailed a letter to the door of the church. Many people understood the false and innapropriate things the church began doing. The "churches" were not following as christ commanded but as sinners wanting personal gain of Christ. That is were puritans came about, looking to KNOW God, not to know of God.

Towards bob wierdsma's comment. If that was true why did the church create so much trouble when people claimed the world was not flat?

According to ChristianAnswers.net circle can be understood either as a circle or a sphere. It is modern skeptics who have misunderstood this and twisted to suit their own biases.
