Wesley's Notes for Exodus 22:18

22:18 Witchcraft not only gives that honour to the devil which is due to God alone, but bids defiance to the divine providence, wages war with God's government, puts his work into the devil's hand expecting him to do good and evil. By our law, consulting, covenanting with, invocating or employing any evil spirit to any intent whatever, and exercising any enchantment, charm, or sorcery, whereby hurt shall be done to any person, is made felony, without benefit of clergy; also pretending to tell where goods lost or stolen may be found, is an iniquity punishable by the judge, and the second offence with death. This was the case in former times. But we are wiser than our fore - fathers. We believe, no witch ever did live! At least, not for these thousand years.

Kebawetse Montshiwa's comment on 2014-04-04 04:06:05:

I believe Exodus 22 18 suffer not the witch to live, witchcraft is a spirit, not flesh and blood, we are not fighting against flesh and blood but against rulers and powers of darkness,it is the spirit that must die, once that spirit is dead , the person is no longer a witch , now becames a dangerous tesimony and will expose darkness to promote the kingdom of God.Remember Rev 12 11.

Lez's comment on 2014-03-07 17:14:49:

What does suffer really mean It loosely translates to allow right So now what does live mean It means to exist I think it means we should noty allow a witch to continure to exist in that state We should endeavour to dissuade him her from the path of unrighteousness and guide him her toward salvation

Pastor Rex Ageh's comment on 2014-02-08 23:49:30:

I believe Exodus 22 18 suffer not the witch to live is the old testament version of Matthew 18 18 whatever you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven Therefore if God gives an express instruction to stop something it behooves on us to act without any prejudices

Exo22vs18,its a command and not a debatable can only be exibite by prayer alone.Read psalm 125vs3,if the rod of the wicked rest on the righteous then u allow the witch to live.

Pastor Ezidi, Holy's comment on 2013-10-27 15:43:18:

I think what EXODUS 22:18 is saying is not pray for the witches to die rather we should be seeking for their repantance in other for them to Christ even Jesus said we should pray for our enemies not for them to die.

Witches and wizards??!! You all live in a fantasy world!! Get a grip on real life.

what is the different between the wicked and an enemy

<<<< The word of God is not debatable. If it is says let the witch die leave it just like that. May be if they start dying, it will send strong signalls to the rest of the witches and wizards to stop pestering innocent souls >>>>

Perhaps if disobedient sons (Deuteronomy 21:18-23) are stoned to death as the Bible commands, it will send a signal and the disobedient children of others will stop their disobedience.

@Rai's comment that the original bible word meant poisoner, not witch. Now, don't you all feel a little silly? And, as "christians" talk about killing people?! Shame on you.

Prophet Dr. Robert Murray's comment on 2013-04-16 16:02:48:

God's word is awesoom

Bahir's comment on 2013-03-02 13:36:48:

I think we have to determine what "suffer" means here, because “thou shall not kill” comes into play, the priests were given authority to punish transgressors of the Torah. However “eye for an eye” was also part of the Law.

Emmma Ohaeri's comment on 2013-02-14 09:52:16:

I find this bible portion very interesting and I have question that bothers me, what of if you have a wife who is a witch who has let you surfer for long before you discovered? Please send me a prayer point that is adequate.

Zika's comment on 2013-01-14 10:56:00:

The word of God is Yes and Amen! God is not a man that He will lie. As we must keep His words, “we shall not suffer a witch to live”. Therefore with constant prayer and fasting witches and wizards must not live but either repent or suffer consequences in Jesus’ Name.! Amen. Exodus 22:18.

Sara's comment on 2013-01-14 00:16:07:

I have been engaged in an intense spiritual warfare with a genuine natural witch for over 10 years. NEVER in my wildest dreams prior to this did I ever believe they existed! So far I have the upper hand and I learned invaluable methods to counterattack and minimize and stop her demonic evil. I have only done so with prayer in the Name of Jesus. I will never physically harm this unrepentant witch - I always give her to God because He is the One she must answer to.

Raymond's comment on 2013-01-09 06:49:28:

Thou shalt not suffer a sorceress to live, Exodus 22:18. Do you know that there are some individual in your life, family, school, and business that until they die you will never have your peace, breakthrough, favor and prosperity? The bible says Any woman/man using unnatural powers or secret arts against your progress is to be defeated. Start praying, and defeat them… In Jesus’ name.

Atta Danso's comment on 2013-01-04 05:01:59:

I personally believe we (believers) should pray for witches to repent and not to kill them. Also a witch is a human being but the "spirit of witchcraft" is evil, so our prayers should chase the spirit of witchcraft, and repentance for the witch. Because God does not want Human beings He created to die and go to hell.

Ezekiel 33 vs 11...God is not interested in d death of anyman than for him to repent. If a witch repent let him live, if not pray and let God deal with him
