20:26 Neither shall thou go at by steps unto mine altar - Indeed afterwards God appointed an altar ten cubits high. But it is probable, they went not up to that by steps, but by a sloping ascent.

 

Ed's comment on 2013-02-13 10:27:20:

I believe this verse speaks about the building of pyramid shaped temples which were very common at the time, not only in Egypt. Usually the place of worship (altar/temple) was at the top of the structure.
