Wesley's Notes for Ephesians 4:29

4:29 But that which is good - Profitable to the speaker and hearers. To the use of edifying - To forward them in repentance, faith, or holiness. That it may minister grace - Be a means of conveying more grace into their hearts. Hence we learn, what discourse is corrupt, as it were stinking in the nostrils of God; namely, all that is not profitable, not edifying, not apt to minister grace to the hearers.

People's Bible Notes for Ephesians 4:29

Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth. What is rotten. Anything that will demoralize others. Obscene, licentious, or immoral language is forbidden. All that the Christian speaks should be that which is good to the use of edifying, building the hearers up in Christ.

    Irene123 you quoted
Eph. 4:8 - This is a ref. to Jesus descending into hell to rescue the O.T. saints who died in faith,
I was wandering if you meant the grave instead of hell because true saints of God living a holy separate life want be in hell. I'm not being rude just curious what you was trying to say.

Eph. 4:8 - This is a ref. to Jesus descending into hell to rescue the O.T. saints who died in faith, Jesus having the KEYS of death and hell, Rev. 1:18. The 'gifts' to men came in Acts 2:38; the MAIN gift was the Holy Ghost from which came all the gifts of - healing, casting out devils, teachers, pastors, etc. Line upon line,.....precept upon precept, Isa. 28:10.

    V. 26 - I had read this verse many times and - I knew it was possible to do, to be angry (really angry, not just miffed) and sin not - because the Bible says so. BUT - I just couldn't imagine how. I found out how a couple of days ago. My husband is anti God. He was trying to be a 'mini' dictator to our FORTY-SIX yr. old son!! I told him it was our son's decision, not his. but, I didn't 'lose' it
