Wesley's Notes for Colossians 3:3

3:3 For ye are dead - To the things on earth. And your real, spiritual life is hid from the world, and laid up in God, with Christ - Who hath merited, promised, prepared it for us, and gives us the earnest and foretaste of it in our hearts.

People's Bible Notes for Colossians 3:3

Col 3:3 For ye are dead. "For ye died" (Revised Version). This is a reason for not loving earthly things. We died to the world, crucified with Christ, and were buried. See notes on 2:12 Ro 6:2 Ga 2:20. This death was a definite act, like the burial and the rising, not a state. The Revised Version is a great improvement on such passages. And your life is hid with Christ in God. They died, but they are not dead. Yet the world does not see their true life, the eternal principle within. Their life is in Christ, and can never be fully manifested until he shall be manifest.

Frequently misinterpreted verse! The Greek grammar was "present tense and ongoing" which also fits with the context. Whenever Christ, who is our life, is manifest (made to appear)- in our affection, (see vs. 2) then we also, with Him will be manifested, in His state of glory. All of ch.2 is contrasting Jesus against and over our own religious efforts. V. 4 need not be withdrawn from the context.

First , I see that I have to put this on : So I must not have it on yet : I am already an elect of God : Therefore I have Holy Spirit within : To allow Holy Spirit within to do as He pleases , I must be ,Holy , which I am and Beloved and , I am beloved of my Father : Because of His mercy toward me I should be able to show mercy also , to be kind, and to have a humble mind , Meekness , an awareness of the presence of God and longsuffering toward my Brothers and sisters. Sometimes this is difficult : But God will not have me do anything that He has not done Himself : I am to be Christ like : this is a continual submitting to Holy Spirit in me.
