I think that the kind of opposition, truly satanic in nature, that the apostle faced from that basest of creatures was the kind that constitutes deliberate and malicious obfuscation of the advance of the truth of the gospel. The apostle's umbrage with this vile worker of iniquity does not emanate from petty personal grievance committed against his own person Paul was big enough to rise above such small mindedness throughout the duration of his ministry to the Gentiles rather, the pronouncement of judgement against Alexander the Coppersmith is a divine declaration that nothing that the tents of base wickedness can divine is able to stop the work of God in its tracks - not until every appointed ear in every far flung place has heard the soul cleansing truth of the priceless gospel of which Paul himself was first recipient, then benefactor in his role as appointed teacher and preacher to the Gentiles.
