Wesley's Notes for 2 Kings 6:17

6:17 He saw, &c. - Fire is both dreadful and devouring: that power which was engaged for Elisha, could both terrify and consume the assailants. Elijah gave a specimen of Divine justice, when he called for flames of fire on the heads of his persecutors to consume them. Elisha gives a specimen of Divine mercy, in heaping coals of fire on the heads of his persecutors to melt them.

I think that the message we are to learn is that although it seems we are alone and there is no possible way for victory, God has us surrounded by his angels and we are always protected and that God will take care of us.

The LORD whom we serve is a consuming fire,we must worship HIM in truth.God is real.by faith we can also call for fire,if only we can serve HIM in truth.
