Wesley's Notes for 2 Corinthians 5:17

5:17 Therefore if any one be in Christ - A true believer in him. There is a new creation - Only the power that makes a world can make a Christian. And when he is so created, the old things are passed away - Of their own accord, even as snow in spring. Behold - The present, visible, undeniable change! All things are become new - He has new life, new senses, new faculties, new affections, new appetites, new ideas and conceptions. His whole tenor of action and conversation is new, and he lives, as it were, in a new world. God, men, the whole creation, heaven, earth, and all therein, appear in a new light, and stand related to him in a new manner, since he was created anew in Christ Jesus.

People's Bible Notes for 2 Corinthians 5:17

2Co 5:17 If any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature. Because, crucified with Christ, buried into his death, we have died with Christ, and risen to walk in a new life (Ro 6:6,4,14). Born anew, we are new creatures who must live a new life. Old things are passed away. The old life ended when we died and were buried. All things have become new. The affections, the motives, the thoughts, the hopes, the whole life.

We are given a totally new person upon acceptance of Christ who is totally separate from the old person of the carnal world. He, the new person, must be fed with the Word of Life so he will be made strong. The new person in Christ will then become strong and will overpower the old person by starvation. The spirit is 'dead ' before accepting Christ and our Savior brings the new person with Him at rebirth 'as a babe ' in Him. We now have a trinity and are one 'spirit, soul, and body in Jesus. Truly, the old man is starved to death and the New man ,who is raised by the Lord and nourished buy the Word is now in power within us. Nothing we have done does this but Jesus who we invited in at the day of our salvation.

I believe that it is an amazing word. It is part of a promise that requires action spiritually on our part while living in the world. It is a wonderful thing to know that if we "BE OF CHRIST " we are promised to become new creatures and basically forgiven of our old selves and by HIS will accept the things that can become new. I love the Lord so much and this scripture is just another reason to continue to trust HIM even more! It is strength! and I will, we all should continue to trust in HIM! I am glad that he is a forgiving God! An understanding God! A merciful God! The fact that we are not worthy we are still given grace. hallelujah!

It clearly states that we are seperated from the evil doings and evil spirit and we are no more slave to satan.

even though i try to live right as a believer my negative past sometimes shows up and i kind of want to question my personality in Christ but over the time with 2Cor 5:17 i have come to clearly understand that it is all about Christ in me.i am not the same person i was yesterday. i have a new personality and it changes everything. thanks to Jesus

The church is full of "christians " who have no idea who God is, what Jesus did for us, or what the Bible says. Studying the Bible allows God to reach in and touch us in that special place where only He can go. Our soul. And that is where the peace that surpasses human understanding comes from. This deep level of love cannot be explained.

That means to be born again ie the SPIRIT of GOD is released in your life, that is what makes you a new creature. The mind has to be renewed to conform to the inner man, in order to be able to walk in newness of life..

MockingBird's comment on 2014-08-03 06:44:06:

When I got born again I was and still am a new creature. I sure didn 't feel like it. My mind and body did not get saved. It is in the process of being saved every day. Soon I will be totally sanctified. this is a faith walk from day to day . After so many years I can see how my life has changed If your not seeing a change in your life then something is wrong . Slowly but surely the old thing I use to do and think have and still are becoming a past thing in my life . It is hard to put away fleshly desires for the things of God but I have found God will go with you all the way to help you make the change. He is patient and longsuffering to be able to help me become more like Him YES !!! AMEN !!!!

It is important to see that you must be in Christ. Understand this meaning first. When the person lives this out in his life daily. Then you become a new creation. Salvation is a walk. You love the truth and lay down your life to it daily

Reuben's comment on 2014-05-15 23:20:41:

Paul is obviously talking about being born again... this is very real, and a reference point in a real Christains life.

The word of God is beautiful is truth!
His word is revealing to those that are in Christ who we are!
Because of what Christ has done not what we are striving to be.

Ed's comment on 2013-04-30 11:50:13:

I have noticed most Christians have no trouble believing (trusting in, relying on or adhering to) all the miracles that God performed through Christ including raising Lazarus after being dead for three days and rotting, healing the blind, lame and sick. No problem believing that the Holy Spirit created the entire universe out of nothing just to name so few. But have difficulty trusting in relying on and adhering to (believing) that God can make any person that comes to him with Godly sorrow and a repentant heart could be supernatural/spiritual made a new creation with all the rights and privileges as Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior.
Our adversary hides or steals the truth that all true disciples of Christ's are totally cleansed, given a new heart of flesh, new spirit, inputed with Christ's righteousness and if that was not enough given God's agape nature and authority over Satan via the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Talk about gifts that we did not earn or deserve!
