CHAP. I.
1 The solemne offering of Solomon at Gibeon. 7 Solomons choise of wisdome is blessed by God. 13 Solomons strength and wealth.
1 And Solomon the sonne of Dauid was strengthned in his kingdome, and the Lord his God was with him, & magnified him exceedingly.1
3 So Solomon and all the Congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon, for there was the Tabernacle of the Congregation of God, which Moses the seruant of the Lord had made in the wildernesse.3
4 But the Arke of God had Dauid brought vp from Kiriath-iearim, to the place which Dauid had prepared for it: for he had pitched a tent for it at Ierusalem.4
5 Moreouer the brasen Altar that Bezaleel the sonne of Uri, the sonne of Hur, had made, hee put before the Tabernacle of the Lord: and Solomon and the Congregation sought vnto it.5
7 ¶ In that night did God appeare vnto Solomon, and saide vnto him; Aske what I shall giue thee.
8 And Solomon saide vnto God, Thou hast shewed great mercy vnto Dauid my father, and hast made me to reigne in his stead:8
9 Now, O Lord God, let thy promise vnto Dauid my father be established: for thou hast made mee King ouer a people, like the dust of the earth in multitude.9
10 Giue mee now wisedome and knowledge, that I may goe out and come in before this people. For who can iudge this thy people, that is so great?10
12 Wisedome and knowledge is granted vnto thee, and I will giue thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings haue had, that haue beene before thee, neither shall there any after thee haue the like.12
14 And Solomon gathered charets and horsemen: and hee had a thousand and foure hundred charets, and twelue thousand horsemen, which he placed in the charet-cities, and with the King at Ierusalem.14
15 And the King made siluer and gold at Ierusalem as plenteous as stones, and Cedar trees made hee as the Sycomore trees, that are in the vale for abundance.15
16 And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarne: the Kings merchants receiued the linnen yarne at a price.16
17 And they fetcht vp and brought foorth out of Egypt, a charet for sixe hundred shekels of siluer, and an horse for an hundred and fiftie: and so brought they out horses for all the kings of the Hittites, and for the kings of Syria, by their meanes.17

1:2 Spake - Concerning his intention of going to Gibeon, and that they should attend him thither.
1:4 The ark - He separated the ark from the tabernacle, and brought it to Jerusalem, where he intended to build a more noble and lasting habitation for it.
1:5 Sought - Sought the Lord and his favour by hearty prayers and sacrifices in the place which God had appointed.
1:8 To reign, &c. - Give me the spirit of my father David, that Israel may not suffer by the change. The eminency of those that went before us, and the obligation that lies upon us, to keep and carry on the good work they were engaged in, should quicken our prayers for wisdom and grace, that we may do the work of God in our day, as faithful as they did in theirs.
1:12 Neither &c. - Those that make this world their end, come short of the other, and frequently of this too. But those who make the other world their end, shall not only obtain that, but shalt have as much as is convenient of this world in their way.
