4 Simon the Canaanite, and Iudas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.
6 But goe rather to the lost sheepe of the house of Israel.
7 And as yee goe, preach, saying, The kingdome of heauen is at hand:
9 Prouide neither gold, nor siluer, nor brasse in your purses:
12 And when ye come into an house, salute it.
20 For it is not yee that speake, but the Spirit of your Father, which speaketh in you.
22 And yee shall be hated of all men for my Names sake: but he that endureth to the end, shalbe saued.
24 The disciple is not aboue his master, nor the seruant aboue his lord.
30 But the very haires of your head are all numbred.
31 Feare yee not therefore, ye are of more value then many Sparrowes.
33 But whosoeuer shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heauen.
34 Thinke not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
36 And a mans foes shalbe they of his owne houshold.
38 And he that taketh not his crosse, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
39 He that findeth his life, shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake, shall find it.
40 ¶ He that receiueth you, receiueth me: and he that receiueth mee, receiueth him that sent me.

Well, it’s certainly true in my case; absolutely! And for either side of the coin: for believers, or non-believers alike Christian or non-Christian.
Nora's Matthew Chapter 10 comment about verse 34 on 2/18/2013, 4:49pm...
The sword Jesus is talking about is Islam, that will come on us all even in Jeremiah the sword that’s to come on all nations and evil, we all will be divided because of our family or so on converting to Islam or Muslims converting to Christianity. I and my Muslim husband are divided because of the sword Islam, so there will be no peace ever until the lord returns. Whatsoever no peace; Muslims are taking our families to Islam, while Muslims are coming to Christ. We are divided as we are in the last days, now all things are bad. We have all been turned from each other over wickedness, but thanks Jesus, as I myself was converting to Islam, but he called me out by dreams. Thank you Jesus for not giving me to their hands. Now the sword will be here growing up and up while Christianity will vanish. That’s why Jesus sheep or a little flock, a man’s own household will become his own enemies which Jesus said, and yes true, me and my kids are followers of Christ but my husband Muslim; so we are divided. Just like Muslims convert to Christ are divided with their families. All in Jesus’ name for his name, but those who will hang until the end the same shall be saved amen. God bless.

I think it seems to have some conflicting statements but however we know that the bible never contradicts itself, it’s just our level of understanding. Also I see Matthew 10 telling us what to expect from family members and those close to us when we accept God's way. Surely we know that as soon as we start our Christian journey, Satan will use anyone to come against us. This is the conclusion of the matter. ''THERE'S A WAR GOING ON'' between GOOD and the devil.

A wonderful reminder of how God loves us. And how we should care for the least of us.

@Karen,
The answer to verse 35 is found in verse 36 when a person comes to know and receive Jesus as their personal savior and comes to the understanding of the absolute truth in God’s holy word, you will begin to experience (sad to say) the variances of faith within your own family and friends if they have not come to the same understanding of truth as you have. Look up the word variance!
Franki b's Matthew Chapter 10 comment on 11/20/2012, 11:21am...
Matthew 10:35, I am come to set a man at variance against his father. This was not the Savior's object, but the effect. The conversion of individual members of the family would cause variance. In nearly all quarrels, except those about religion, the members of the same family stand together, but in religious feuds the family circle is often broken and its parts arrayed against each other.

I need a deeper understand of what Jesus meant in Matthew 10:35.
