Wesley's Notes for Hebrews 4:12

4:12 For the word of God - Preached, #Heb 4:2|, and armed with threatenings, #Heb 4:3|. Is living and powerful - Attended with the power of the living God, and conveying either life or death to the hearers. Sharper than any two - edged sword - Penetrating the heart more than this does the body. Piercing - Quite through, and laying open. The soul and spirit, joints and marrow - The inmost recesses of the mind, which the apostle beautifully and strongly expresses by this heap of figurative words. And is a discerner - Not only of the thoughts, but also of the intentions.

People's Bible Notes for Hebrews 4:12

Heb 4:12 For the word of God. The Israelites came short because they refused to hear the word of the Lord. If we could enter in, we must take heed to the word. It is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword. Cutting keenly and in all directions. Piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit. It not only gives life, but slays, as was the case with the Israelites who fell in the wilderness, and pierces to the soul and spirit. It reaches the very fountains of life. A discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. It lays bare the thoughts and the intentions.

God is quick, strong, and powerful

My understanding is that we make wrong choices because of our sinful nature but God alone can discern our thoughts and only him can separate us with his double edge sword in love and with the same sword destroy our adversaries who tempts us to sin against God. We can enter the rest prepared for us if we humble ourselves allowing His spirit to quicken us with discernment to make the right decision

Verse 13 shows that there is no hidden thought, word, or action to God and that we all must render an account to him.

I just understood better verse 12 of Heb 4 which says 'for the word of God is quick, and powerful and sharper than any twoedged sword..' Wow! it means God meant what He is saying, and it will come to pass. If you don't rest from sinning; from the works of flesh; from being unbelieving; and eternity catches up with you either by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, or by death, then you are doomed!

Ryan: Yes, we DO serve a wonderful God. You said: "...rest from sinning on the 7th day..." I've never heard it expressed like that, thank you.

"More over, I gave them My Sabbaths to be a SIGN, between Me and them, that they might KNOW that I am the LORD that SANCTIFY them." Ez. 20:12

    Peace my friend!

I can see why you left. You said: "Brilliant Ryan" (sarcastically), "smell", "languished", "escaped". You also said: ".... I enjoy Divine Rest every day."

I've been an SDA all my life, and have always enjoyed "Divine Rest" every day.... And.... the Seventh Day is still Holy to the Lord, set apart, Sanctified, Blessed, Hallowed, Kept by God. Love God my friend...Peace!
