12:5 And yet ye seem already to have forgotten the exhortation - Wherein God speaketh to you with the utmost tenderness. Despise not thou the chastening of the Lord - Do not slight or make little of it; do not impute any affliction to chance or second causes but see and revere the hand of God in it. Neither faint when thou art rebuked of him - But endure it patiently and fruitfully. #Pro 3:11|, &c.

Heb 12:5 Ye have forgotten the exhortation. Surely they must have forgotten, or they would bear their tribulations more cheerfully. My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord. This is quoted from Job 5:17-18. See also 2Sa 6:7-10. The thought is, Do not murmur at God's reproofs and chastenings.
