He blessed us to to be fruitful and multiply:this is the heat of fire to live successfully if we use it accordingly and heat of fire to burn away and devastate if not used accordingly.

Richard Truitt's comment on 2011-01-26 06:42:29:

\"Replenish\" Does that not mean that there must have been something here before to \"replenish\"?

Patty's comment on 2011-05-10 20:33:20:

I asked that same question about Genesis 1:28 of the King James Version! In todays english, replenish means to replace. What was replaced?

Richard Truitt's comment on 2011-05-16 17:03:52:

Would someone please explained what was replenished?
What had been there before?

jojo's comment on 2011-05-22 14:57:04:

replenish mean to redo over again.

DaLe's comment on 2011-10-18 06:19:32:

replenish
(probably) more in the sense of: to fill, as in settling on (about) every continent (regarding humans generally)
replace re humans does not really make sense, unless we (hypothetically) talk about souls (in different kind of bodies)

Nevertheless,
\"be fruitful, ..., replenish the earth, and subdue it\"
sounds very agriculturalistic, does it not?

ukee's comment on 2011-10-26 16:06:02:

replenish is questionable re the beginning of human life starting in Genesis - it hints that there was a people before Adam, and man was to redo what existed before and [replenish] - also another thing that was questionable rev 13:8-. . . the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.\" show that Jesus was slaim before God created heaven and earth, and it took place 2000 years after?

yomi's comment on 2011-11-22 15:56:01:

My understanding about the verse is that,God has provided everything for man,but want us to use wisdom to discover them.

rory's comment on 2011-11-22 21:42:44:

the correct word is \"fill the earth and subdue it , its speculation contrary to Genesis 1 to think that this Adam was replacement , also Rev 13:8 the founding of the \"World \" is not the planet but when Adam and Eve had children , the World of people, that God loved

Joe's comment on 2011-12-05 13:53:56:

Rory is 100 % correct in his translation, replenish although is used, to imply thatit means to replace, is like saying that theres such a word as plenish when reading this, but plenish is not a word, I gather thai it implies to keep creation going, to cause it to spread, rejuvenate, procreate, as there was nothing here before. Concerning the phrase before the foundations...., that is a reference as to how God sees time, the past, present and future are all one to him. he knew us beforewe were born, he sees us now, and also sees us in heaven with him, all at the same time, all as one!, howver it is up to us whether or not we truly end up in heaven with him in the end (predestination). Read also the first chapter of John, pay close attention to the 1st 5, or 6 verses!

Joe's comment on 2011-12-05 14:26:52:

to better define the word replenish, go to Strongs Hebrew and Greek lexicon web page, and also for other help in defining words, the translation for replenish there is : to fill, be full, fill and subdue, confirm and consecrate. Use that website in concordance with this one!

jeff's comment on 2012-08-03 08:38:40:

My question is with the what had done when He had \"blessed\" them ... To bless is to kneel in adoration. Did God kneel before us ? And what is it that specifically could define Blessed in this context.

myGodluvsme's comment on 2012-08-14 21:58:12:

the word replenish there is replace.

ben's comment on 2012-11-22 08:45:52:

Does \"subdue\" extend to include genetic and weather modification? Is \"dominion\" a little heavy-handed, like an unconditional license to rape, pillage and plunder? I\'m not a Bible expert, but would hope that the big guy placed some limitations on granting this generous scope of authority.

J.R.'s comment on 2012-11-22 19:30:47:

There`s no mistakes. God`s word is correct. The word replenish is the same word given to Noah after the flood. There were a people before Adam...as indicated by the fossils left behind of people and dinosaurs. From scripture and \"guessing\" these people were not like Adam. They were like the hosts of heaven which serve but I DO NOT BELIEVE they had a will, as you can see in the beginning the Earth was void. God doesn`t create voids. He is a God of order, not of chaos. The first people were destroyed by sin. But they were not redeemed as I do not believe they had an eternal spirit. Genesis is the beginning, but it’s not the beginning story for man, nor for all of creation. There were no dinosaurs in Adam`s time and following the lineage from Adam to the present day is far from millions of years, yet dinosaur fossils date from millions of years back. I WOULD MEDITATE ON this as God is not above wiping out creation due to sin. And waiting for someone else...someone more obedient to be there to commune with us as we live. This generation shall not see the land of milk and honey. God left a whole generation of disobedient Israelites die off so that their obedient children could inherit the promised land.

khangezile Shongwe's comment on 2013-01-16 09:25:54:

God blessed them and through his blessing, he commissioned them to bear fruits meaning they must multiply and cover the Earth and conquer it by having power over it.

Janice's comment on 2013-02-08 15:45:11:

I think this is where God created the first humanoids and sent them out to fill the earth with human-like people. In the next chapter he makes Adam and Eve the first people with SOULS. He breaths into Adam and he becomes a \"living Soul\". He put Adam in the Garden of Eden to dress it, and to go forth and replenish the earth. I think these humanoids are where Adam\'s and Eve\'s children found mates.
