In the measure of the grace given to me, I, as a wise master-builder, have put the base in position, and another goes on building on it. But let every man take care what he puts on it.
- Darby Bible

1Co 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given to me. Given when? When he was called to be an apostle. I have laid the foundation. The figure of the building is retained. Paul is a discreet master-builder. He had laid the foundation at Corinth, when he was preaching Christ, and working through faith in him (1Co 2:4,5). Notice it is not "a foundation", but "the foundation", because God's spiritual temple can have only one (1Co 3:16). Another buildeth thereon. After Paul left Corinth, Apollos and other teachers continued to build upon the foundation that Paul had laid. Let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. Since there is only one foundation of the temple, viz.: Jesus Christ, there should be most careful and conscientious building upon it (1Co 3:12).
- People's Bible

According to the grace of God which is given to me, as a wise master-builder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth upon it. But let every man take heed how he buildeth upon it.
- Webster's Bible

In discharge of the task which God graciously entrusted to me, I--like a competent master-builder--have laid a foundation, and others are building upon it. But let every one be careful how and what he builds.
- Weymouth Bible

According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another builds on it. But let each man be careful how he builds on it.
- World English Bible

Aftir the grace `of God that is youun to me, as a wise maistir carpenter Y settide the foundement; and another bildith aboue. But ech man se, hou he bildith aboue.
- Wycliffe Bible

3:10 According to the grace of God given to me - This he premises, lest he should seem to ascribe it to himself. Let every one take heed how he buildeth thereon - That all his doctrines may be consistent with the foundation.

Timothy Wayne George's comment on 2013-03-10 19:12:20:

Thank God that Jesus Christ is that solid foundation, that we must build upon. Jesus told the story of the wise man, and the foolish man. The foolish man built his house upon the sands, and the rains came, then the floods descended, as a result the house fell. The wise man built his house upon the rock. The rains came, then the floods descended, and the house stood firm. We must be wise as we build on the foundation, and make sure it is the Lord Jesus Christ. The fire will determine that at the Judgment Seat of Christ. So let us labor together in the gospel. As one plants, another waters, but only God can give the increase. All the glory belongs to God.
