I think Bob is pretty much spot on. Verse 1 tells us this is speaking of the "Day of the Lord. " That is, "that great and terrible Day. " So depending on your interpretative view to the Second Coming and the Day of the Lord, it is clear that the state of mind of the general public will be that there is relative peace and safety globally or at least in their own countries . This follows a period of continual unrest and turmoil nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom mentioned by Christ in the Olivet Discourse . So the world will welcome this seemingly wonderful period of peace and will give themselves whole heartedly to the leader s they feel brought them to this peace. Then, sudden destruction as the world has never seen. So, when we consider the turmoil in the Middle East, the unrest and heinous acts by terrorist groups such as Hamas and ISIS or IS ,considering what will come is not something I want to be around for. If you think of some of the modern weapons we now have available, the emphasis on "sudden " becomes apparent. Damascus will be wiped out in a day. With Syria being a hotbed for terrorism, this is completely understandable. For those of us who are saved, we need only to look up and know that our Redemption draws close.

Mathew are you serious? This is about the last days. Its a general reference to the state of mind that Mankind will have. They will feel at ease, like it says and they will be eating and drinking and giving in marriage. Its only stating that people will have basically forgotten about God. Just when they think, where is this God of yours , where is the promise of his coming? IT has NOTHING to do with the character of King Arthur! sheesh How in the world you could ever come up with that idea I surely do not know. This is the state of mind our world is in at this moment. I looked this up only because there will be covenant made with Israel for seven years of peace and who but the pope is visiting with Israeli and Palestinian leaders this very weekend. Will this be the very covenant to bring in the beginning tribulation period? If not I think its right around the corner with all that is going on. Russia and China are getting all cozy together. Russia is pushing its limits again. And the U.S. ? We are right in the middle of all kinds of things.

Matthew's comment on 2012-10-30 13:59:01:

That is true. When the little horn, from Syria, rides into Jerusalem on a white horse, he will confirm a covenant with many for seven years. Immediately after that Jesus will open the second seal of Revelation 6:3 and they will not escape. The little horn will have six letters in each name, Lucius Arthur Castus.

Faith Matsuoka's comment on 2012-08-17 10:58:36:

It seems to me, as I study, that "Peace and Safety" will come after a time of war. And I feel that it will be when the Anti-Christ comes on the scene and promises it. And then the Tribulation begins. What do you think?
