1 Chronicles Chapter 4
10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
18 And his wife Jehudijah bare Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, which Mered took.
41 And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.

Matthew Henry's 1 Chronicles Chapter 4 Bible commentary...
- In this chapter we have a further account of Judah, the most numerous and most famous of all the tribes; also an account of Simeon. The most remarkable person in this chapter is Jabez. We are not told upon what account Jabez was more honourable than his brethren; but we find that he was a praying man. The way to be truly great, is to seek to do God's will, and to pray earnestly. Here is the prayer he made. Jabez prayed to the living and true God, who alone can hear and answer prayer; and, in prayer he regarded him as a God in covenant with his people. He does not express his promise, but leaves it to be understood; he was afraid to promise in his own strength, and resolved to devote himself entirely to God. Lord, if thou wilt bless me and keep me, do what thou wilt with me; I will be at thy command and disposal for ever. As the text reads it, this was the language of a most ardent and affectionate desire, Oh that thou wouldest bless me! Four things Jabez prayed for. 1. That God would bless him indeed. Spiritual blessings are the best blessings: God's blessings are real things, and produce real effects. 2. That He would enlarge his coast. That God would enlarge our hearts, and so enlarge our portion in himself, and in the heavenly Canaan, ought to be our desire and prayer. 3. That God's hand might be with him. God's hand with us, to lead us, protect us, strengthen us, and to work all our works in us and for us, is a hand all-sufficient for us. 4. That he would keep him from evil, the evil of sin, the evil of trouble, all the evil designs of his enemies, that they might not hurt, nor make him a Jabez indeed, a man of sorrow. God granted that which he requested. God is ever ready to hear prayer: his ear is not now heavy.

as I was praying this morning as Jabez example , I clearly heard our Lord's word in my heart asking me if I love my family (I am a widow with a son married (but at the moment saperated ,the wife has the little girl and the elder boy is with the father on the second floor of our family house). I replied to the Lord 'of course I love you. He asked me twice again the same question and my reply was the same. Then the Lord told me 'collect your family under one roof! This is what I wanted to do from the beginning but it's very hard when they are in and out of church all the time. Now I have to pray to the Lord and the HS to lead me and show me how. Thank you all who will see this note and pray with me for the reunion of my family.Gos Bless you all

This prayer if Jabez is relevant for this thanksgiving season. O that God would make me a blessing, enlarge my borders, and keep me from evil. The Lord granted the request. We need to help our brothers and sisters in the Philippines suffering from the typhoon. Give and it shall be given unto to you pressed down, and shaken together. Let the Lord use you to give hope to someone who needs help. Yes pray, but give for how can we say be warm, and be filled, while not providing what they need. So be a blessing today.

I too claim this prayer...of Jabez! Oh that thou my God, would continue to bless me indeed past where I could ask or think , and expand my sphere of influence...expand my territory...that I would be a blessing to your Kingdom and within your Kingdom...and that you would bless my hands. And the work of my hands...that I will cause no evil or harm to anyone...and God granted me just what I asked!

Jabez's prayer is evident enough that our God is more than ready enough to turn our sorrows to joy if only we obey, trust and ask Him to take position in our lives.
