CHAP. XV.
1 Dauid hauing prepared a place for the Arke, ordereth the Priestes and Leuites to bring it from Obed-Edom. 25 Hee perfourmeth the solemnitie thereof with great ioy. 29 Michal despiseth him.
2 Then Dauid sayd, None ought to carie the Arke of God, but the Leuites: for them hath the Lord chosen to cary the Arke of God, and to minister vnto him for euer.2
4 And Dauid assembled the children of Aaron, and the Leuites.
5 Of the sonnes of Kohath: Uriel the chiefe, and his brethren an hundred and twentie.5
6 Of the sonnes of Merari: Asaiah the chiefe, and his brethren two hundred and twentie.
7 Of the sonnes of Gershom: Ioel the chiefe, and his brethren an hundred and thirtie.
8 Of the sonnes of Elizaphan: Shemaiah the chiefe, and his brethren two hundred.
9 Of the sonnes of Hebron: Eliel the chiefe, and his brethren fourescore.
10 Of the sonnes of Uzziel: Amminadab the chiefe, and his brethren an hundred and twelue.
15 And the children of the Leuites bare the Arke of God vpon their shoulders, with the staues thereon, as Moses commanded, according to the word of the Lord.15
17 So the Leuites appointed Heman the sonne of Ioel: and of his brethren. Asaph the sonne of Berechiah: and of the sonnes of Merari their brethren, Ethan the sonne of Kushaiah.17
19 So the Singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbales of brasse.
21 And Mattithiah, and Eliphaleh, and Mikniah, and Obed Edom, and Ieiel, and Azzaziah, with harpes on the Sheminith to excell.21
22 And Chenaniah chiefe of the Leuites was for song: he instructed about the song, because he was skilfull.22
23 And Berechiah, and Elkanah were doore keepers for the Arke.
25 ¶ So Dauid and the Elders of Israel, and the captaines ouer thousands, went to bring vp the Arke of the couenant of the Lord, out of the house of Obed Edom with ioy.25
27 And Dauid was clothed with a robe of fine linnen, and all the Leuites that bare the Arke, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song, with the singers. Dauid also had vpon him, an Ephod of linnen.27

15:1 Houses - A palace consisting of many houses or apartments for hisseveral wives and children. A tent - He did not fetch the tabernacleof Moses from Gibeon, because he intended forthwith to build thetemple.
15:5 The sons - Of Amram or Izhar, Kohath's sons,#Numb 3:27|, otherwiseElizaphan, ver.#8|,and Hebron, ver.#9|,and Uzziel, ver.#10|,were Kohath's children.
15:11 The Priests - Abiathar the high - priest, and Zadok thesecond priest.
15:18 Second degree - The first rank of sacred musicians being thosethree famous persons named ver.#17|, next to whom were these here named.Porters - who were to keep the doors of the tabernacle and courts,but with all were instructed in musick, that when these were freefrom attendance upon their proper office, they might not be idle norunprofitable in God's house.
15:20 Alamoth - Or, with Alamoth which is thought to be the name ofan instrument of musick; or of a certain tune, or note, or part in musick.The certain signification of it is not now known; and the like may be saidof Sheminith, ver.#21|.
15:21 To excel - Which word may be added to note the excellency of thatinstrument, or part of musick; or that there was a greater extension orelevation of the voice than in the former. This way of praising God bymusical instruments, had not hitherto been in use. But David institutedit by divine direction, and added it to the other ordinances of thatdispensation.
15:22 For song - He was the moderator of the musick, instructing themwhen and how to lift up their voices, or change their notes, or maketheir stops.
15:23 Door - keepers - They were appointed to keep the door of the tentin which the ark was to be kept, that no unallowed person might pressin and touch it; and in like manner they were to attend upon the ark inthe way, and to guard it from the press and touch of prophane hands; forwhich end these two went before the ark, is their other two brethrenmentioned in the close of ver.#24|, came after it.
15:26 Helped - Encouraging them in their work with some comfortablesign of his presence with them. In all our religious exercises, wemust derive help from heaven. God's ministers that bare the vesselsof the Lord, have special need of divine help in their ministrations,that God may be glorified thereby, and the people edified.
15:27 Linen - With a linen ephod. This circumstance is repeated,because it was an unusual thing for one, who was no Levite, to weara Levitical garment.
